4-4, Right where we were projected to be

Postby Big Hoss » Sun Oct 24, 2010 10:37 am

Look, I am just as frustrated as anyone. But at the end of the day, we have won the 4 games we were expected to win at the beginning of the season, and lost the ones we weren't. I know the last 2 games have been disappointing because we had the talent to win them. But let's not give up on this season yet. The next 4 games, while not cupcakes, were projected as wins for us.

I think a lot of us were concerned that we would not be able to repeat last year's suvvess; with road games at Tech and Navy, we hoped we would at least be able to beat WSU at home. I agree we are where most everyone thought we would be. I still say a 7-5 finish would be a sign this program is continuing to improve. Let's just hope we can find 2 more wins and that one of our bowls will consider us worthy. Might be a good year to "stay home" and play the Armed Forces Bowl at Ford

I won't nitpick Navy - preseason that looked like a tough game, nevermind that as the game actually played out we should not have blown it. But this is not anything like the Houston team we expected to face. And losing by 25? You can't wash those facts away with "right where we should be b.s."

Isn't this the first game where we've laid a big turd all season? I am pretty concerned about our secondary, and I know we aren't being given the next 4 wins, but still, why is the freaking sky always falling?

Throw in the second half at Navy and it looks disturbing, but you're basically correct. I hope the utter peace and quiet of the (Tulane version of the) Superdome will help KP get rid of the ball in under five seconds.

The past three games SMU has scored 21, 21, and 20 points. The offense is not producing as one would expect when using the Run and Shoot. This is not a single weak performance by the offense, but is the third in what has become a trend. Perhaps Tulane will be the contest during which order is restored to the offense, but one cannot know for certain.

It would be wrong to say all hope is lost, but there remains much cause for concern. To think it otherwise would be to embrace delusion.

True. What I am hoping for is that they take these last 6 quarters as a kick in the arse, suck it up, and perform the way they are capable of performing.

The other thing about our secondary is that we need to get more pressure on the QB, which should help to rattle him and not have time to throw mid to long-range passes (or at least not as accurately). That is likely going to be the only way our secondary looks better.

The other option? Score 40 points every game. Let's do what it takes to get KP comfortable - whether that be thin down the play book, start signaling in more plays so he doesn't feel rushed to get the play off in time, and put a boot in the arse of the O-line (who should be playing better at this point).
