Fan Support Marketing Director...

Postby westexSMU » Tue Oct 26, 2010 1:49 pm

In order to improve our weak fan support, I still say we need a Qualified Marketing Director, who's purpose would be to improve fan support, and be paid in addition to a salary, a percentage for every PAID seat he gets into the stands above 25,000 for some games. Obviously, there are some qualified people with Experience out there who would love the challenge and have a good plan. The fact is now its not getting done and we are in serious need of some changes in effort concerning putting butts in the seats. Supporters have spent all this money on the stadium etc., and Coaches. It makes no since not to make changes and spend a little more to try to get this situation improved. Like JJ has said, we are missing a generation of fans because of the DP etc. and it is going to take some qualified people to get this situation turned around.

Let's go to 10 straight bowls and a national championship game and see how our attendance looks.

lol it would be nearly impossible to win a national championship from our conference. Try it out on NCAA via xbox or ps3. You can go 2 straight years undefeated before you are even considered.
SMU took a chance on me. I'll never turn my back on it.

Didn't Orsini can the entire marketing department? Got to come up with a marketing budget before you can hire a marketing director, even one who is paid on commission based on the number of ticket sales.

It would probably have to go the route of the Mustang Club. If anyone would like to donate to the cause, I am pretty sure you could create a marketing position. I wonder if anyone hits up our DFW alumni database. The same messages go out to the same MC members, not general alumni.

Every indication I have heard, we don't have budget. People don't realize there are other sports to fund other than football.

Marketing is a necessity, not an afterthought.
In most athletic programs, the revenues from football fund every other mens and womens sport with the possible exception of men's basketball.
Not sure if this lack of marketing falls on the A.D., the school administration, or both, but it is poor management on some level.
Might be time for another meeting of the "Circle of Champions"?

I kept playing and got invited to the Big 12. They kicked out Baylor, of course.

I played for 10 seasons, finally started to fill my stadium, got labeled as a BCS Buster and still got ignored! Who was I playing as? LOL
