Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chancesNext year we could be 1-3 again in non conference games having to then win 6 out of 8 conference games to get to a bowl Also, instead of playing UAB, Marshall, and East Carolina from the East Div of CUSA when play for the next 2 years UCF, Memphis, amd Souerthen Miss (2 possible losses there with another probable 1-3 OOC record). Then in 2013 we could be 0-4 in OCC games no matter who would be coach. The is not good for a team trying to build it's way up. TCU and Boise only schedule 1 or 2 fairly difficult OOC games. TCU plays a D-1AA opponent every year. Having one D-1AA and one MAC opponent every year would at least give the team a chance.

Re: Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chancesWe'll just have to get better.
Re: Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chances
UNT tried this money game/body bag strategy and it does not work. The teams are physically and mentally beat up after the OOC games. Then they are drained emotionally when they get to conference. We could get better and still have a worse record and not go to a bowl game which will not help recruiting. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chancesWe put the cart before the horse, for where this program is at our future non-conf schedules are ridiculous. It's going to be difficult to rack up any impressive win totals playing against 2 Big 12 teams and TCU every season. We conceivably will be scrambling late every season just to get bowl-eligible. Playing a tough OOC schedule means nothing if you don't win the games, at the end of the day a loss is loss no matter how well you might have played or many people showed up to see it.

Re: Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chancesI agree. Look at UTEP's OOC schedule compared with ours. Schedule a 1-AA team, N. Texas, and another Sunbelt team every year until we can get a few winning seasons going. Then add in a few BSC teams if you want. Starting the year on the road at TX Tech was just stupid. I am not crazy about playing Navy every year either. Remember this is year 3 of actually trying to compete so we should adjust the schedule accordingly.

Re: Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chancesI guess the only option is to give up. I for one am counting on improvement and hopefully winning games that some of you are just writing off. I do not mind one lesser team a year, but the goal is to become a BCS buster and that will not be accomplished with cupcakes. We are not scheduled to play Ohio State or Oklahoma, or Alabama. We have some mid level majors. We need to be able to win some of those if we want to be the team we should want to be.

Re: Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chancesNot give up but change the future OOC games. Before we become BCS busters we need to string together some bowl appearances (7 wins no matter how we get them) to help recruiting. We need to think wins before anything so that we can recruit better. I think some of us think we are closer than we really are.

Re: Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chancesWe absolutely should be playing TCU every year, regardless of their rank or ouor SOS, so they don't come off the schedule.
Texas Tech is a reachable game with a huge upside if we win and an "Eh, we tried" if we lose and important regional and historical importance, so we need to keep them, or one Big XII team, on the schedule. WSU is possibly the worst team of any BCS conference team (Might as well be FCS) so they are fine. Navy is usually an up and down team who we should be competive with, so they are fine. Our OOC, especially considering how weak or conference opponents are, is fine. This is not, repeat not, a 'money' schedule.
Re: Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chancesI respectfully disagree. Playing pansies and a CUSA schedule is not a good recruiting formula. We need to step it up now. If we lose all the OCC we had better win CUSA. You do not get better by playing weaker opponents.

Re: Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chancesI have no problem playing lower teir BCS teams like Baylor, Vandy, Iowa St, Kansas or service academies. Those are games we should have a chance to win.
Re: Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chancesWe came out 1-3 regardless and could be struggling to get to a bowl which would not help our rebuilding efforts. I am also more referring to our future scheduling. I wish we could have gotten Kansas this year

Re: Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chancesI get the easier W, but you don't get better playing lesser competition.
Better teams raise the bar and helps awareness and attendance.
Re: Our OOC scheduling could be hurting our bowl chancesThe key is to get better, not play weaker teams.
