Glad the board is back up and running.
Some general thoughts 48 hours later:
*Official attendance reported was 18,636. Divide that by three and that's more like it. There were maybe 6,000 people in there, and it seemed pretty evenly divided between SMU and Tulane folks.
I know Tulane isn't lighting the world on fire, but their home attendance was shockingly dismal.
*Looked like the SMU crowd planned ahead for the usual chilly Superdome - lots of folks brought their jackets.
*SMU played like I felt during the first half - still groggy from the night before on Bourbon St.
*You could tell the entire SMU crowd had the same thought run through their mind when we went down 17-3: "OMG, we aren't even going to go to a bowl game this year."
*I don't know where that 28 point deluge came from. All of a sudden, the offense started clicking.
*The players were visibly feeding off the SMU crowd in the fourth. It's been a while since I've seen something like that for a road game for SMU.

Thanks for the insight. I almost turned the radio off at 17-3 thinking this was a Caven/Bennett disaster of monumental proportions.

What a roller coaster. My wife went shopping around that time and of course I had pronounced to her how poorly we were playing. She was shocked to hear we won the next day.

I really hope this win helps this team out of its 2 1/2 game funk. We need to be playing well the full 60 minutes against UTEP.

my friend passed out at the game..apparently he had too much fun on Bourbon street that day.

Can't say I like playing indoors although it's nice to be able to drink whatever you want during the game.

let's face it - attendance in CUSA as a whole is pretty dismal aside from a few schools. Tulane was worse than Rice. Big Cities, small private schools...

tailgate food was awful - Burgers and hot dogs in New Orleans?
Didn't have time to pre-eat somewhere. Should have known better.

Yes, at 17-3, I was thinking "there goes the season"...most likely no bowl.
Glad Kyle settled down. I don't think we have played a good full 60 minutes yet this year.

So happy we are done with UAB. They seemed to have gotten better and better.

It is a nice win, and seeing that UTEP are playing like their usual second-half selves, I expect us to beat them.

She is a wise woman and knows not to ask about SMU until the next day.

I think our band did well. They were fun. And I'm not just saying that because they turned toward our box and played directly at us in the second half...but that helped. Props.

It looked like Tulane was running all over us in the first half. When they were in the single-back double tight set they used unusually wide splits, making it difficult to blitz gaps when we lined up head-up, which we generally do in our 3-4. Thank goodness we figured it out.

What was up with JJ playing McDermott on first down, and first down only, for three straight series' in the third quarter?

This is a point that should have been understood long ago-but isn't. Although the sentimentalitist may think how cool it to be in a conference with Rice and Tulane(and wouldn't it be neat to be in a Magnolia Conference with Duke and Vandy and Northwestern)-it is the KISS OF DEATH for our future in Division 1A. None of these games ever draw JACK even though relatively close proximity. This is exactly the reason that TCU went to the MWC because most of these schools (including SMU until recently) attempt to compete on Division 1A level on their own terms-and FAIL. I believe SMU, Tulsa and of course, TCU have made the decision to compete. Now we may be stuck with these schools for awhile and they may decide the reinvigorate their program by building new on-campus facilities in the future BUT we can not tie ourselves to these schools if a better opportunity arises. Otherwise, we may well find ourselves stuck with the Southern privates in Division I-AA or in a 1-A Conference or Magnolia Conference with no national visibility.

Darkwa did run all over us in the 1st half then as you recall twisted his knee on great tackle. Didn't look quite the same in the second half but then again I think aliens abducted our defense from the 1st half and left us with a more than adequate replacement group!

yes, Stallion is very right. I was just pointing out we are all in the same boat. They could not have had more than 4k on their sideline.

I can't imagine how they even survive with budget/$$ playing in the Superdome. Has to cost them a fortune to rent it out??

With the nickname "Jewlane" you'd think they would find clever ways to avoid playing on Saturdays. I believe that's their real problem.

There is no way there were 6000 people there. I was impressed though that SMU had a good size crowd for an away game...we may not have had as many there as Tulane, but it was close. Pretty sad for Tulane.
