Injuries are part of the game to football players, but sophomore SMU safety Ryan Smith recently endured one medical setback that normally doesn't appear on football injury reports.
Smith visited with PonyFans.com to discuss what happened, and how he — and his family — dealt with the unique situation, as well as his approach now that he is back on the field.

Man, that's a scary thing.
So glad Ryan is OK, and glad he's playing well for the Ponies!

I don't know if I could play again after an injury like that. Ryan Smith is one seriously tough guy.

He's great.
Just an FYI, his family was featured on the CNN Documentary, "Black in America" that aired in the Summer of 2008. I had the opportunity to work on the marketing aspect for the show, so it was cool to see a future Mustang on it.

Then you saw a Mustang AND a future Mustang — his dad is a Mustang, too.
