A&M releases tentative 2011 football schedule

A&M released its 2011 tentative football schedule on Wednesday. The nonconference slate includes contests at Kyle Field against SMU and Idaho and the annual game against Arkansas at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
The new league format calls for the Aggies to face all of the other nine remaining members of the Big 12, with Oklahoma State, Baylor, Missouri, Kansas and Texas at home and Texas Tech, Iowa State, Oklahoma and Kansas State on the road.
The Aggies are scheduled to kick off their season on Sept. 3 against SMU.
Meanwhile, athletic director Bill Byrne addressed speculation that he influenced the decision to start Ryan Tannehill over Jerrod Johnson last Saturday in the Aggies' 45-27 victory over Texas Tech.
“I received a lot of notes and pats on the back over the weekend congratulating me for the great job Ryan did,†Byrne wrote in his weekly online column. “And it was a great job. But many of you are trying to give me credit for the line-up change, and it's just not so. I've never told a coach who to recruit, what play to call, or which athlete to play.â€
Tannehill, in earning the nod from coach Mike Sherman, threw for a school-record 449 yards in his first career start.
