This broke late this afternoon. Very interesting. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5765214During the height of star quarterback Cam Newton's recruitment out of junior college last year, a man saying he represented Newton allegedly was soliciting a six-figure payment to secure his signature on a national letter-of-intent, ESPN.com has learned.
Former Mississippi State quarterback John Bond told ESPN.com a teammate of Bond's at Mississippi State in the early 1980s contacted him soon after Newton's official visit to Mississippi State during the Ole Miss game in December, and said he was representing Newton.
"He said it would take some cash to get Cam," Bond said. "I called our athletic director, Greg Byrne, and he took it from there. That was pretty much it." Multiple sources told ESPN.com that Mississippi State called the SEC office with Bond's information shortly after he brought it to the attention of the school.

A few more stories like this and the NCAA will have to get really serious and put a few BSC schools on double secret probation.

Sounds like the MSU did the right thing by reporting this to the NCAA. No probabtion necessary.

Not for MSU but some non AQ school will certainly have to be punished.

I doubt anything will come of this. However, it has to be a distraction to Auburn. They'll need to be on top of their game in order to take down mighty Chattanooga tomorrow.

He left UF not because of the lap top scandal, he left because Tebow came back for his senior year. Auburn apparently has known about this since July, and if there was any doubt in the administration's minds that this happened he would've sat. I don't think anything will come of it either.

Just heard on ESPN where the liaison was asking 200,000 for Newton. I wonder how much did Auburn pay for him.

Yes that was the story from him and his father but he went to JUCO for Tebow's Sr year so really it didn't gain him any D1 playing time.

Heard Auburn has already been having discussions with USC on how best to deal with this....
How best to send the Heisman back, that is... UPS, FedEx, Priority Mail...

This is just an advertising ploy by ESPN and The Thadsta' to tout the Heisman Trophy Presentation Show and to have the viewers stick around for the 30 for 30 "Pony Exce$$" debut! Auburn has to win the Trophy first before they can determine the best shipping service for its safe return. BTW USC uses FedEx Kinkos to keep the revenue stream in the alum extended family!

If the NCAA enforcement guys get angry enough about what might have gone on in the SEC regarding the recruitment of this guy, watch out CUSA and SBC. We are in the footprint of the SEC and somebody will have to pay!
