First of all, stick with me, many points in this post. I too felt like June was our saviour and when he guided us to 7 wins in a pitiful conference and delivered a blow out bowl win to a team with one of the worst secondaries in the history of NCAA and their top two running backs out, I was on board. But we need to look past that.

First off, its fair to say, that this team is soft, no self control, and no imagination. June got his butt coached off tonight, we never go for it, we never run fakes, we never run trick plays, we just do what the book the says. We make so many stupid penalties, sure...lets blame the refs, but if you had your head down, just playin football, there would not even be a grey area to get a flag.

Run and Shoot......How can you make your QB run over and call a play without even seeing how the defense is lined up and who they have on the field? This is just June being stubborn. Stay at the line and use hand signals, like every other GD team in the nation, just lazy. Sure, lets say, he gives the QB an idea and then he can audible...Bulsh!!!!!!!!....June calls a draw, regardless of the defense...it is run.

Bad Coaching with no imagination.

I love June, but the game has past him by, the quicker he goes the better, we need a coach with some fire, that won't put up with those penalties, that will score more than 14 against freakin UTEP!!!!!!!!!!...Talk defense all you want, but we hold them to 28, we shoulda won 50-28.... Lazy offense with no imagination or flexibility.

OK, ready for the Lord June Squad to come snipe me...but this offense is not good, its unimaginative, its set before the defensive formation is even seen and it is now behind the times..witness the points put up by some other teams this week.

On top of that, June takes no chances, runs no trick plays, never goes for it on 4th down, unless dire circumstances....and MIKE PRICE, of all people, outcoached him tonight.

I'd almost agree but the Price point gives me pause. He did the whole talk to the qb thing back at Hawaii and went to a Sugar Bowl. I put it on Kyle not being able to make an adjustment. I'd be interested in what percentage of called plays are ever audibled off. Could be that KP takes the play, doesn't or can't change based on what he sees, and just runs it off. I don't think it's passed JJ by but it's not working right now and play calling is part of it.

I'll agree with you that June needs to stop having Kyle run over to the sideline to get every play because it allows for ZERO changes once we get to the line and see what the defense is lining up. Plus, it gives us absolutely no ability to (a) wear down and tire out the opposing team's defense, and (b) go for quick snaps when the previous play was in our favor but questionable and might be reviewed.

I didn't watch Hawaii enough when he coached, but does anyone know if he did this with Brennan and the other QBs he had there?

You guys are crazy. Defense couldn't get UTEP off the field in the first half and hasn't made plays since Moore went out with injjury. Poor corners kill the ability to blitz and pressure. All of the coaches will tell you that CB and DL are the most important positions on the field on defense.

I had us at 6-6 going into the year because of the loss of McNeal, Sanders, Gamble, McConico, Bell, and McCann. We don't have the depth in play to recover from all of that. Last year this team had a ton of senior leadership to keep the young guys focused and in check, but that isn't there this season either (hence the penalties). If we don't commit stupid penalties we win this game despite having no corners and losing our best and really only RB and playing without our FG and punter. That is a hell of a job of coaching to keep it close if you ask me.

Yeah he did. I'm not sure if Brennan could just run off a close one but the Hawaii folks say it went down every play. Maybe Brennan had a better sense of it and could check off.

Your post is beyond ignorant... I will take June and 5 losses (on the season, so far) over the last two decades, any day... At least give the man 5 seasons... When were getting 9 win+ seasons with June, you will be singing a different song...

This offense is ancient, forget the perception....

June had a quote about it something like "we scout so well, we know what they will call on defense, thats why we know what to run on offense"

Bulsh!....Line up however the hell you want, 4 WRs, 5 WRs...hell I don't care..., but survey the defense then make the call. Don't make it on the sideline before you have even seen what is going on.

June is no offensive miracle worker, don't give him a free pass, this offense is not good, hold him accountable, its not the players, its the scheme.

I'm not saying June needs to be gone, because that's nuts. But some poor coaching allowed for so many penalties tonight - some of which could have easily been prevented but guys were losing their cool. Sound coaching prevents an abundance of that, and the coaches have to share the blame.

The offensive landscape has passed June by, not his fault, it comes with age. Give me Todd Graham, a recruiting machine with an imaginative offense (who will beat Houston and put us back in it)...Put your 2 million dollars there.

You realize SMU (who is coached by June Jones) has beaten Tulsa (coached by Todd Graham) two years straight... I'd put $2 million dollars in getting a fan base that doesn't complain about everything... And if you'd like to hire back Phil Bennett, then will go ahead and pull out the nasty navy blue helmets and never see a bowl game again...

My perception of it is that we just don't have the hosses. I think Padron would be doing better and the called plays working out better with more depth, bigger and faster receivers, offensive & defensive linemen. The coaching staff is definitely working on it. I saw some of those recruits a couple of weeks ago, and if 2 or 3 of them come to SMU, we are in for an upgrade. Some of that caliber is here now, but still not nearly enough.

The run and shoot makes adjustments on the fly so not much need for an audible.
