Lets not lose sight...

of where we are...we are 5-5 and 4-2 in C-USA. Probably right on par with where most thought we would be this year. You must remember that last year 3 of our 7 wins were won in a ridiculous way...we were probably a 4 win football team last year that extremely over achieved. All those wins inflated our expectations for this year when in reality we are right where I thought we would be from a win-loss standpoint...don't get me wrong, there are some things that are quite disturbing...

like our inability to score. I would have expected us to be putting up at least 35 ppg in the 3rd year of the R+S. I remember those Hawaii teams that seemed to score at least 42 every time out there.

Obviously the loss of Emmanuel hurts, who drew all the attention and allowed AR to get single coverage. AR is still performing great but we need other WR's to step up.
Also the loss of Enright is even bigger than it seems on paper. McJunkin just cant get the job done but we have no competition to push him.

On the other side of the ball, the loss of Sterling is just crippling because he could shut down one side of the field and allow us to get creative with our schemes and shade help to Crawford's side. I think we get Moore back for the last 2 and we will certainly need him against ECU who chunks the ball around all game.

D-Line got ZERO pressure lastnight..was UTEP's line that good?

Linebackers are pretty weak in coverage.

Let's not panic and make outlandish games like JJ has forgot to coach, we will be fine...everyone relax because anyone who was thinking 8, 9, 10 wins clearly didnt watch this team last year. Next year is the year we can have those type of expectations. For now, lets see if we can take care of Marshall and ECU and go bowling.

Good post! I think you have nailed it. Do believe your expectations are too high though. With a bye week and getting Marshall at home, SMU might get to six wins, which is what I predicted and hoped for but I don't believe there is much chance against ECU up there. Even with six wins, SMU does not deserve a bowl but it would help us to have the extra workouts. If I were Jones and we got into some crummy bowl, I would seriously consider some full pads scrimmages. Maybe even this week!

pretty remarkable that through all of this doom and gloom we still have a chance to finish 6-2 in CUSA and play in the conference championship game.

while I don't see that happening, I think there is a good chance we finish 5-3 in CUSA which is what I hoped for coming into the season (fearing we would go 1-3 in non-conference games). I felt all along that the Navy game would be the key to going 7-5 rather than 6-6.

Excellent post Click-Clack. There is no depth on this team. Last night we put in a third string cornerback because of injuries. Media reports were that June would have benched some D players a couple of weeks ago for poor play against Houston, but couldn't because there was no one available to replace them.

We had horrible recruiting years leading up to JJ's hiring, and essentially lost a year when PB went out. Tons of decent redshirts are sitting it out this year. Give JJ a chance to load up.

By the way, I think Mustang fans are among the classiest. But every now and then I think it is good to remind ourselves that when we post on this - or any other board - we should assume that our top recruit might be reading. Let's don't pile on named players for poor performance or for stupid mistakes. They are kids and the coaches should be responsible for the blame. And blame they do endure.

Click Clack.....you are so gutless to name a particular player as "not getting the job done" and leads me to believe you must be related to his backup or maybe an ex-girlfriends parent. These guys aren't professional athletes and all they can do is to put forth the best effort they can. If the coaches had someone better they would play that player.

are you serious? out of all the ridiculous stuff people say on this board, calling people out by name and you choose to respond and single out my comment about our center? wow, im sorry if I offended you, did not mean to..was just calling it like i see it...and no I do not have an agenda or any relationship to a back up center, hell, who is our backup center? Bryce Tennison? I guess he would slide over from guard if we needed to..and yes, you validated exactly what i said previously..."of the coaches had someone better they would play that player"...exactly what I said.
