...returns 7 starters on each side of the ball from last year. They physically outplayed and manhandled us a year ago. I guess there was some "getting used to" necessary with the new coach..but they've won two in a row and their QB passed for 300 against UAB. Speaking of QBs, the guy from last year is still there; they also have a former Mr. Football from Florida (good job Holliday) and Willie Korn from Clemson.
I'm not sure what happened to them between their near miss vs WVU and the last two games, maybe a letdown after 'their super bowl.' Either way, this game is nowhere near a given I don't think, and there's certainly some challenges to overcome.
Hope we have a great couple of weeks of practice and right the ship.

Their DE Vinny Currey is one of the two best DEs in CUSA along with the Miller kid at UCF. Even made a Mid-Season All American list. When you wonder why our DEs aren't named All-CUSA go check both of these kids out.

Or just look at what our DEs have done the last 3 weeks, which is nothing

We still could have beat marshall last year, had a chance on final drive...
my fondest memory of Huntington is being thrown out of a bar for buying to many drinks for the local ladies...
Hope we come to play...

If we don't....emerge from the funk....and beat Marshall
my pre-season 6-6 prediction will be in serious jeopardy!

i hate playing at marshall and utep. the officiating at those places is horrendous.
if we were playing at marshall i am sure we would lose due to officiating.
playing them at home is another matter. i think we will win without much trouble.

I heard there were a lot of bad calls in the UTEP game. Does anyone have any specific examples?

The 'no catch' call by Aldreck at the sideline that went on and on for a silly long time...they said he was juggling the ball when he went out of bounds, so he had no possession!...He caught it with one hand and still had it one damn hand for three or four steps as he gained his balance.....you CAN'T juggle a ball in one hand and still keep control.
The fact that it went on for so long was a joke.

It was not as much bad calls. We did not lose due to the officials. It was just bad officiating. The review of the sideline catch coupled with trying to figure out where to spot the ball took no less than 10 minutes. The UTEP folks put the freeze frame of where the previous play had begun up on the score board for the officials to see and they refused to look.
There were several personal fouls but I think our kids are letting the opposition intimidate them into swinging. I saw it with Houston and I think that is what was happening at UTEP. They need to learn to keep their cool.
