We always hear "well that's changed now, it's not like that anymore" but then there is reality. This morning I stop and get my normal Sunday morning Dunkin Donut/coffee and head to the neighborhood nursery for some pansies for the flowerbeds. I purchased my flowers and notice they have really nice college team garden flags. Yep there is TCU, yep there is Texas, yep there is Baylor, yep there is A&M, yep there is Texas Tech, yep there is LSU, but as is usually the case no SMU garden flag. So upon checkout I ask the manager and she says "I know I know, I've been asked that before, and SMU is funny about their stuff, we can't get it, our supplier says they won't release it". The lady on her own brought up June Jones and how he is bringing the Mustangs back. She said it's odd since SMU is the "local school". BTW I already know other places have SMU garden flags, that's not the point. The point is why is it so often SMU merchandise is the one missing right here in Dallas? Not always, just many times.

june,doh,orsini and smu's second in command are members of my golf club but you can not get any smu apparel in the proshop...you can get ut,a&m,tt,okla. bags,club covers,balls,shirts,etc. but no smu or tcu apparel...."we dont carry smu products" was the answer i got this weekend....smu has no marketing effort..has not had one since potts who gave us mustang mania,yard signs,flags,bumper stickers...now we have geldings...i dont think you can buy a smu golf bag or club covers anywhere in dallas.

Marketing or lack of it is a serious issue now, however garden flags may not be a good starting point.

SMU is just one of a handful of NCAA D1 teams which have retained their rights and don't have a licensing agreement. Strange it seems but I wish someone within the university would tell us why that is? I think it is the reason you don't see the logo hardly anywhere and why so little product is available to the SMU fan. It is like they want to keep it exclusive or a secret!

I was wondering the same thing while visiting the USO here on base. They have TCU and a handful of other college flags on the rafters but not SMU! Even when I was in Korea for 6 month back in 2009 many of the sports jersey, blanket, memorabilia shops that are a dime a dozen had never heard of SMU or had their logo on file to make a custom order. I almost had them make custom embroidered items using the SMU and pony logo but gave up after it was too much work. In Korea, they can make anything you want, maybe I should go back!

Seriously though I did order a garden flag and a 3x5 SMU flag from the SMU bookstore online and it was exactly what we were looking for.
