Depth, Injuries, NFL players - Opinion

Postby OC Mustang » Tue Nov 16, 2010 2:42 pm

IMHO,

The falloff from last year in terms of inconsistent play, etc., has to do with three things:

1) bye week placement - wish it could have been two games ago...
2) depth - coaches have gotten as much as they could out of those men, but SMU needs more
3) injuries - been beaten to death..see #1...

There is a #4...missing McCann & Sanders...they were clearly awesome...we are seeing just how much so. However, I've wondered about the injury bug and whether having a bye a little more middle of the season would have been better for the guys to get their legs under them again.

Hopefully this team will finish strong, the recruiting class will remain as robust (and maybe pick a couple of extra JUCOs and a couple of additional strong star recruits), and going into the spring, the team will be ready to challenge and control their own destiny next season.

I know that no thought above is new...but I read Coach Jeff's Day 2 comments, and it backed up what I have been wondering....

If you could live without one or the other, I'd live without McNeal. Sanders is just a difference maker.

IMO, AR is not leader. He's a good No. 2 guy and will make the play that makes you go "Wow". And that's fine. But to me, he's dropped too many passes to make me believe any different.

Haynes -- Just a guy

Beasley -- Solid little possession move the chains person

Johnson -- Disappointed that his second half hasn't been as good as his first. I really thought he would emerge as The Man.

The keeper has said it accurately many times where this group does not do a good job of separating itself and getting tougher yardage.

Hopefully, the bye corrected and challenged those in the WR group to finish strong.
