New Conference Rumor Hot off the pressesWord has it that SMU, ND, TCU, Navy, Army, Miami, AFA, BYU, Boise, Rice, Wake Forest, and Duke are going to form an all sports and football conference and it will be announced on Thanksgiving Day. The Conference will be named the All America Conference. It will be headquartered in South Bend. It will have a huge TV contract due to the addition of the Service Academies, ND, and BYU. The Big East and ACC are wetting themselves over this and are apparently trying to take pre-emptive action. The pie will be split based upon cumulative TV appearances per team. CUSA and the MWC are going to merge after this.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: New Conference Rumor Hot off the pressesha, what a joke. no way Wake or Miami leaves the ACC. TCU is going BE.

The Magnolia Conference guy has not been around in awhile. I have not checked in a year or so to see if his website is still around
Re: New Conference Rumor Hot off the pressesDude, this belongs in the "Secret Conferences" thread!
Here, lemme help ya: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=49900
Re: New Conference Rumor Hot off the pressesany rumor of a conference that wants Rice is automatically false.
Re: New Conference Rumor Hot off the presseseast, where did this nutty rumor come from? I could actually see Notre Dame deciding that what they are doing isnt working anymore and trying to build a conference in their image that they alone can control before the BigEast and BCS take their sweet deal away. I don't see them going to the Big 10 because honestly its going to be too difficult to for them to ever win it consistently with Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State and Wisconsin to go through. Notre Dame wants to load up on service academy wins, and play about 3 tough games per year. The rumor is crazy because Duke basketball would never leave UNC rivalry and the ACC. Would be too high risk. Also, why would Boise get invited to that group of privates and academies? No way ND wants Boise in anything.
Unless forced to make a move by the BCS, ND will stay indy as long as possible and keep their other sports with other Catholics like Marquette, DePaul, Dayton, Xavier etc. I could even see that group inviting Butler to a new league that is more attractive to them than the Horizon.
Re: New Conference Rumor Hot off the pressesRice brings a consistent baseball program to any conference. Since college baseball is slowly becoming a more poplar sport, a new conference might, might, consider a baseball powerhouse as a plus.
Not saying this is likely, just a possibility why a Rice might be considered.
Re: New Conference Rumor Hot off the pressesits easy to be skeptical of anything, but the real crux is whether you think the Big East and BCS are going to just let Notre Dame continue to skate with a sweetheart deal? Why would they actually? ND is not doing enough for them or commanding the ratings it once did because they arent winning. They really might get forced into doing something and if they see the writing on the wall, they will try to make a preemptive move of some kind which could mean anything.
Re: New Conference Rumor Hot off the pressesThe real question about Notre Dame is how long is their NBC contract. As long as they have it they are not going anywhere. No other conference is as dumb as the Big 12-2 to let one team have their own TV contract.
Re: New Conference Rumor Hot off the pressesHere's the theory behind this concept. ( I really don't believe its imminent, probable or even remotely likely) But BYU, ND, Navy, Army, and Air Force already have National Networks/TV Contracts. Those schools would get to keep their TV revenues from their networks while the schools that don't have a network would simply help fill their schedules in Football only and enjoy greater national exposure. Schools like SMU, TCU would join the MVC for other sports.
