A Lesson from the Past

East Carolina's poor running defense provides an opportunity for SMU to successfully utilize one of its most famous tactics of old. SMU once changed its entire offense in order to run the option against Texas. The results were so such that what was to be the strategy for a single game became the new standard offense.
By no means do I suggest that SMU change offenses for the duration of the season, but that by changing to an offense that emphasizes the run for this single game SMU can achieve tremendous results. This is an excellent opportunity for Zach Line to challenge the SMU single-game rushing record.
East Carolina's defense is ranked #120 in points allowed.

I would think-if they really are so defenseless against the run you could insert Jeremy Johnson BUT I don't think that is Line's best running plays. We've been lead to believe that Jeremy might play that role-don't know if its in the playbook. Many ECU fans seem to fear teams running straight at them-and that is Line's forte. From what I can tell they give up huge gobs of yards however you attack them. I read some statements that Rice modified their offense for ECU using that QB that Jagared knocked out instead of Fanuzi.

I'd like to see a heavy dose of Line. I also want to see Butler, Fields and Pope as well. We need to play all out and not hold anything back.

The Jeremey Johnson angle is interesting. I was talking to MustangIcon a few games back and he threw out the idea that June was holding back on the Jeremy package until a must win game. I think ECU qualifies and would love to see that package against that D.

We can beat them with the same offense we used against Marshall and everyone else. The key is no turnovers and pressure on the QB.

ECU certainly qualifies as a must-win considering what the team's primary goal is (winning C-USA which can't be done unless we win the West which is exactly what beating ECU would accomplish). Considering their recent woes against teams employing option formations June has extra incentive to break out the WildMustang for Friday's game.
