TCU stays at No. 3. Wisconsin apparently likely to get automatic Big 10 bid as highest ranked team in 3 way tie assuming these computer rankings are the same as BCS rankings which they should be

This is exactly the reason I disagreed with the people saying UCF would rest their starters against Memphis. I thought they had a chance to be ranked, but wasn't sure it would happen this week. But I knew they were playing for a ranking to end the season regardless of when it happened.

Now go and beat them and take their place.

A little perspective is in order here.
Win or lose, the championship game is a big milestone for SMU. But a win is very important.

Our schedule was tougher this year than last and we wound up with the same regular season record. That's an improvement.

We failed to make the championship game last year, but we made it this year.
That's an improvement.

Beating UCF on the road in the championship game would be our first win over a ranked team of any kind since the TCU win in 2005. We'd also be champs of a conference for the first time since we were co-champs of the SWC in 1984. It would be the first outright championship for us since 1982.

I suspect that at 8-5 we would start to get some votes in one or both polls.

After that, I don't know what will happen for a bowl game. I see a ton of rumors and very little concrete information. I hope we'd get the Liberty bowl just because it's supposed to be the spot for the CUSA champs. It's also the one available to us that has the largest payout.

The thing is, I'm not convinced that UCF is all that much better than we are. I think we've got a good shot at winning. I just hope several thousand SMU fans can make the trip to Orlando to watch and cheer the team on in person.

I doubt many students could make the trip. It's too far to drive and it's the weekend before exams start

They definitely have more talent, but the secondary has been an issue. If our line can give Padron clean pockets then we could tear them up through air provided his accuracy issues get cleaned up here soon.

With mobility issues I expect Padron to focus on getting the ball out fast. I think that will be a good thing.

Hopefully June calls plays to that effect.

Tulsa wins their bowl and they should be top 25 in the AP at least. And we beat them.
