BCS Standings Offer Some Surprises

Postby Stallion » Sun Nov 28, 2010 11:10 pm

Auburn overtakes Oregon for No. 1. TCU No. 3 and Stanford jumped to No. 4 in the BCS poll despite being at No. 5 in the USA Today Top 25. Very significant because this means the BCS has to take "another damned private school" over the glamour boys. Good Deal. Since TCU likely go to the Rose Bowl though Stanford would have to go East

another crappy attendance coming up for the Orange Bowl. Cincy hurt them last year; they'll have, what ACC champ maybe vs Stanford? Or worse yet UConn vs Stanford

At this point it looks like it's gonna be TCU vs. Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. Going to make for a great side-story in the media, what with all the hubbub surrounding the recent "Little Sisters of the Poor" comment.

Too bad it couldn't have been Ohio St. That would have been pure karma at work.
Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.

Pitiful that VT and West Virginia are going to the BSC and the highest ranked of the two is #15. That assumes VT wins the ACC title game.

Can the Ohio State President explain to me why VT and WV deserve a BSC bowl game and the little sister of the poor BSU doesn't?

You are also assuming that UConn loses to South Florida. If UConn wins they are representing the Big East in the BCS. That actually makes it a more pitiful situation.

I was going by rankings.

I left Florida State out as they were ranked lower than VT. Regardless, I doubt any ACC or Big East team ends up ahead of BSU next week.

But a U Conn win would really make the OSU president’s explanation interesting.

MY question is: Why is Stanford no. 4? Yeah. I know they have beaten their last 5 opponents like a drum, but the Pac 10 is awful.

I honestly want to know; how can the six BCS computers rank a team whose best win is over No. 23 Arizona, fourth, while Arkansas, who beat Texas A&M (No. 18), South Carolina (No. 19), Mississippi State (No. 22), and LSU (No. 10), and has played the seventh toughest strength of schedule, is fifth (according to the computers)? What’s with the unquestioned respect for a team whose only claim to fame is playing well for a half against a WAY overrated Oregon (more on that in a moment)… before losing 52-31?

Really? The best win was over Arizona at home? Wisconsin’s best win was over No. 6 ranked Ohio State. Boise State beat No. 15 Virginia Tech on the road. Oklahoma just beat No. 14 Oklahoma State on the road. Stanford’s second best win might have been over USC at home, but that was a nail-biter that came down to a final kick against a bad team.

Oh, so Stanford must have played a killer non-conference schedule.

Sacramento State, Wake Forest (the worst team in the ACC), and Notre Dame. Sure, beating the Irish was nice. Michigan State did that, too, and it has a win over No. 5 Wisconsin on the résumé.

SC could really throw a wrench into the BCS this year; they beat Auburn and you might see Oregon/TCU for all the marbles; then Stanford gets Wisconsin the the Rose Bowl and SC gets ??? in the Sugar. Could see Big XII vs Ohio State in Fiesta?

Cal you may not like it but TCU is one of our own.... When SMU plays them we can jump on them, bite , kick and scratch and its ok... but when they are playing the biggest overated conference in football then they are like our little brother.

I guess you haven't been checking the conference rankings.

Maybe it is because some of those teams are a tad overrated? A&M's best road win was over a 7-5 Baylor. South Carolina deserves credit for the home win over Alabama, but who else did they beat? MSU's best win was (barely) over a 7-5 Florida. Is that supposed to be impressive?

Oregon is overrated? Ask Tennessee if Oregon is overrated.

If SC beats Auburn the Arkansas River will go dry from the number of bodies in it from people jumping off bridges.
