Just two years removed from consecutive 1-11 seasons, SMU is playing in the Conference USA Championship. The Mustangs, who face Central Florida, continue their resurgence under third-year coach June Jones a season after ending a quarter-century long bowl drought. SMU advanced by virtue of its dramatic 45-38 overtime win at East Carolina in its regular-season finale. SMU finished tied with Tulsa for the West Division title, but held the advantage of a head-to-head October win. UCF won the East Division title and is hosting the championship for the third time in six seasons.
