INDIANAPOLIS -- Auburn quarterback Cam Newton is eligible to play in the SEC title game this weekend, even though the NCAA says his father broke rules by shopping his son to another school.

he NCAA released its finding in a statement Wednesday. The college sports governing body had concluded on Monday that a violation of Newton's amateur status had occurred. Auburn declared Newton ineligible on Tuesday and requested his eligibility be reinstated.

Newton has been cleared to compete without conditions.

Auburn (No. 1 BCS, No. 2 AP) plays South Carolina (No. 19 BCS, NO. 18 AP) in the Southeastern Conference championship game Saturday. With a victory, the Tigers will earn a spot in the BCS National Championship Game.

Okay......

Where does this put Auburn the school?

Does this mean that Dad shopped the son but nobody was taking?

The NCAA rulebook clearly states that someone can't shop a player around, so what kind of precident does this set?

This is only going to start the questions.

Wait they declare he broke the rules but let him play any way? There is no integrety in the NCAA, Lets just start calling these athletes what they are semi-pro's and let them take whatever money they can find. This is rediculous

After they win a National Championship and a Heisman, The rules don't mean anything if they are not enforced immediatly think of all the advantages AUB will enjoy because of what cam playing will mean to them

THIS is going to do it? lol.

Aub is running scared.. strongly considering taking fine rather than trust Cm Newton to not say something stupid...he was dangerously close last time he got emotional about this subject around reports, he just isn't articulate enough to dance around this and not create more issues for himself.

either way SC cannot lose now...if they win its huge, if they lose...Auburn cheated, as this basically proves.

Why do we even need to let Auburn play at all? Just cancel their season right now and let them sort it all out for however long it takes.

Wow, just wow. This is very bizarre. NCAA says he's ineligible, but reinstates him? NCAA, thy name does not stand for integrity.

since when does the NCAA decide ANYTHING so fast? isnt there a long line of kids waiting for the ncaa to hear their case on academic issues etc, meanwhile they are missing games. why not Cammie?

So let's play this to its logical conclusion. Say Auburn wins and goes to the National Championship game. It beats Oregon to win the National Championship. Let's say that TCU goes to the Rose Bowl and trounces Wisconsin. Then let's say that the NCAA finds after the fact that Newton was ineligible and declares that Auburn forfeit the win over Oregon. Oregon then becomes the National Champion without having to face TCU. Gotta love the NCAA! After that, the NCAA then sanctions Middle Tennessee State for having a fan pick his nose during a game.

Auburn declared him ineligible on Tuesday because they knew he had broken the rules, but then applied for his re-instatement from the NCAA.

Hey, it's the NCAA, when have they ever done anything relevant

other than to become totally impotent when forced to confront

one of their anointed...the chosen few?
