Darius Johnson and Daryl Fields

What's the story on Darius? I know he missed the last game due to a knee injury. Is he out for this game as well?

I'm curious about Darius. Through about the TCU game he was a big part of the offense. But over the course of the year he seems to have tailed off badly production-wise. Anyone know what's going on there? Has he been playing hurt?

Also, I don't feel like I've seen Fields for a few games. Anything going on with him?

Thanks

Darius had 60 receptions for 588 yards and 5 touchdowns.

That's 5 receptions/game, 49 yards/game, .41666 TDs/game.

That is disappointing give his talent.

Perhaps it is a case of opposing defenses figuring out that he's talented and not giving him the oppertunity?

I think Darius has been OK this season. He needs to take a quantum leap up next year to be our go to guy. Beasley is terrific across the middle but we need a big gun to take the place of Al. Its got to be either DJ or Keenan Holman.

Based on what someone else posted yesterday or Monday, Fields is not seeing the field until he understands the blocking schemes.

Everyone who was injured vs. ECU is expected to play against UCF.

Good. Glad to hear they'll be playing.

I'd certainly like to see Darius step up next year. We've got a pretty good stable of receivers though with Beasley, D. Johnson, J. Johnson, Hollman, Guinyard, and hell, maybe even Terrance Wilkerson. I'm sure I'm forgetting some. But I think the position will be a strength next year.

Guinyard tore his ACL again.

Fields is also having an issue with one of his hamstrings I believe.

Darius needs to learn that he is out there to make big plays and not just catch the ball and tippy-toe out of bounds or get knocked down by the first finger laid on him. Bunch of players can do that. The ball in his hands should be an opportunity. He has the ability to make people miss-but he hasn't been very successful yet in accomplishing that at Division 1A. Now I will say he gets pretty high marks for catching the ball and he really only has 1 year of experience, He is at the bottom, though, in yards per catch among the Top 20 Receivers in CUSA. Big Plays! Darius.

2. Aldrick Robinson SMU 20.74

Very sorry to hear that about Guinyard. Tough break for the kid.

Dj is just waiting for his time to shine. Right now he is kyle's third choice. Kyle uses al for the deep ball and most big plays and beasley for quick, short yardage completions. Everytime dj touches the ball he makes the play. He just doesnt get as many opportunities. Some of his grabs have been game changers(think about that one handed catch against tcu). I can't wait for him to replace al and see what he can do. His numbers should be ridiculous next year.

Two other things...

When did Kris Adams pass al in yards per catch?

And I'll take 9 yards a catch any day of the week by dj. This number will skyrocket next year.

but DJ is a slot - not a WR - right? he doesnt "replace" AR - someone else will need to do that.

For the kind of offense we run I have been disappointed in the WR talent we have attracted to date - imagine this offense with a Blackmon (OSU) type receiver. I know those guys go BCS - but i would think we could have snagged a couple of physical big fast receivers by now. might be a JC option to think about out there.

I don't recall June sniffing around too many JC players for the offense. The two I remember were QB Kevin Craft for his first class in 2008 and HB Kenny Turner for last year's class, of course he didn't get either.

My guess is Holman is going to be Al's replacement. Taller and with decent speed. There is plenty of room for 3 receivers to get their plays in this offense, and I hope DJ tears it up next season.
