Eh, that would happen whether it's BCS or tourney. If had been an eight team tourney BSU probably wouldn't get into that, either.
Besides, someone will point out UNR got a whole lot of exposure and interest in their program from the win.
Stinks, but you still have to win.

bcs-BS made out just fine which is the whole point of a cartel. To victor goes the spoils or whatever they say. The bcs-BS gets richer & everybody else stands around with there heads up their #$$#.

Guys a palayoff would be just as corrupt and unsatisfying if it were 8 teams only seariously it would be the AQ winners plus two at large bids this year Ohio State and LSU even TCU wouldn't get in. The only way to make it fair and work right is 16 teams winner of each conference plus 4 at large

Why would it be an 8 team tourney? D3 has 32 teams, D2 has 24, and D1-FCS has 20. I would guess that the approach that the D1 guys would take is a 32 team format. 20 of the top 25 teams in the BCS poll are BCS conference schools. Only TCU, Boise State, Utah, Nevada, and Northern Illinois are in the BCS poll. Here is the next 26-32 teams:
26-Hawaii
27-Central Florida
28-Maryland
29-NC State
30-Navy
31-Notre Dame
32-UConn
That is 9 of the 32 teams. Only 2 would be the favorite in their bracket. Based on the money that this would generate for the larger schools based on payout, it would be stupid for them to keep the bowl system since statistically they would score more money based on more participants. If a Playoff systems had 32 teams based on this years current rankings and I assumed that each team was paid:
Round 1 - $1 million
Round 2 - $4 million
Round 3 - $8 million
Round 4 - $16 million
Final - $32 Million
If I took the rankings as predictors, the non-BCS schools would get $41 Million of the pool of $288 million or 14 %. However, if you call TCU a BCS school now, then the rest of the Non-BCS schools would get only 4% of the total slice of the playoff pie and that includes Notre Dame(who is a BCS independent school). Just as an FYI, this years bowl payouts equal out to about $263 million.

Eh, you're right, it wouldn't necessarily be 8 teams, that is just an example.
But an upset it any point would potentially screw over the conference.
Like I said, you still have to win.
Now,
If you want to talk about how much more a playoff would generate, possibly into the Billions, then NOW you're talkin.....

i wouldn't want a playoff any bigger than 8 teams. gotta make the regular season still very important, nearly to the level of the playoffs. pretty hard to lose more than once and be in the top 8. i'd even be ok with 4 or 6. anything's better than the current set up - but i wouldn't want it to turn into a free for all where it doesn't matter if you drop a couple games.

Most Playoff System Examples say the winner of each conference goes to a playoff. So Nevada would go I believe.

A large-scale playoff is never going to happen. In most of the lower division playoff games, one team hosts the other. All the current bowls are not going to just close-up shop and allow that to happen, and the NCAA would't take the financial hit either of losing the money they get from them.
How much ad revenue do you think ABC/ESPN and the NCAA make off of the 30 or so bowl games on ESPN each year? And it would be a cluster to try and air every single D1 playoff game on ABC/ESPN allowing enough time in-between games for teams to travel.
It's not about competition for the NCAA and ABC/ESPN, it's about money. Period.

I like 12 teams with top 4 getting a bye and 5-8 hosting first round games. Play semis and final at BCS bowl sites. Keep the other bowls in place as is.
