Cool Offense June!!!Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Cool Offense June!!!OK, So I watched the game with a guy that loves college football but does not know that much about SMU. He says that the run and shoot looks a little tired and is really not that effective. I said, well, he has reengerized us and does good recruiting. Then, he says, thats good, has he considered hiring an offensive coordinater that would run a more dynamic offense?
Then I said, we went 7-5 last season, and 7-6 this season, he has brought us back. Then he said, didn't Phil Bennett go 6-6 in his next to last year...How has June been much better. I said well, he wants to get rid of Peruna and switch us to black uniforms....Not a good argument, but true. June has missed the boat, his offense is outdated, he has not updated it like Hawaii did. The defense played well enough to win, but we had such an unimaginative offense game plan, everyone could call out when we would call a run, or a pass...and we lost about 8 minutes of game time making Kyle run over to get the play before we even saw the defense. He needs to update and at least go to handsignals. Great defensive effort, but our "offensive guru" had a lazy and unimaginative game plan, like always. Peace out! Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: Cool Offense June!!!You are a moron.
Re: Cool Offense June!!!
Great well thought out Criticism, I think I have a valid point. How is 1-11, 7-5, 7-6 much better than what Phil bennett did? How did we waste such a well played defensive game? Look in the mirror and be a big boy and realize that this offense is not that good, and it falls on June. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: Cool Offense June!!!
June is a smart guy but you're right he is lazy and stubborn. Would it kill him to evolve a little? You know it just might. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Cool Offense June!!!Is everyone so desperate to grasp at a few straws to think that 7-5, 7-6, is a great season and that June is an offensive genius. There was a reason he was at Hawail, we desperatley overpaid to bring him here. He is not the answer on offense. He could be the answer for recruiting because he has cred.
But he needs to hire a new offensive cooridinator. See Above....Making the QB run over and get the play personally from the coach when you are down more than two scores without even seeing the defensive alignment is just moronic. Unfortunately, Many Pony fans are buying it. Look in the mirror. Mike Cavan, Rossely, Bennet, have all equaled or came wihin one win of June Junes's best season...Don't fall for the hype. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: Cool Offense June!!!
June was 8-5 in his best year. June went to a bowl game. Cavan, Rossely, and Bennett did none of those. None of them got to 7 wins. Rossely only got to 5. Hate to ruin a good discussion with facts.
Re: Cool Offense June!!!g
Great facts dude...So you like 8-5, after going 7-5 in the regular season? Bennet did 6-6, Caven did 6-5. Rossely was close. You are splitting hairs, Tell me how awesome a record of 7-5 or 7- is? Cool story bro. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid. Give 2 million to Todd Graham, then we would all be happy. Instead we pay for a has been that got us two more wins, "SEE THAT AGAIN", two more wins than Phil Bennett. Grow Up. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: Cool Offense June!!!I find it interesting how readily some people will discredit the other teams' efforts when their own team does bad. UCF is ranked first or second in most defensive categories. They are a great team, all around, and we weren't that out of the game. More so, Padron did have the ankle injury and it was obvious that he was intimidated by UCF's pressure. We were 1-11 just two years ago, these resurrection projects take many years. Yes I'm happy to go 7-6 this year, you got to be consistent. Plus, this is college football, recruitment isn't something which you see results of within a year. It takes years and years to finally see enough to measure successes or failures in that regard.
Seriously man, if you think you can turn one of the worst C-USA teams in the last decade into the best in 3 years you're out of your freaking mind and it shows how little you know of the process.
Re: Cool Offense June!!!Yes, grow up wow what an astute argument you make. You have shown me the light and the true way, thank goodness. I bow in awe of your incredible ability to argue and make an outstanding point.
Re: Cool Offense June!!!If you can't see the improvement to the team on the field, in our ability to attract quality recruits, and the entire culture of the SMU community following June's hire then there is simply no reason to even try to argue with you. If you can't see the value that he has added and how it is light years beyond what any coach has done since the 80s then you are trying awfully hard to ignore it.
We've only had 2 years of real recruiting from June, and we just played for our first conference title in who knows how long, and all you want to do is whine that June isn't the guy? Give me a break. I'm sure you'll come back at this with something you think is clever or funny, but the fact is nothing you say is going to overcome the idiotic nature of your reasoning and anyone with half a brain knows it.
Re: Cool Offense June!!!Shadowman, June is a good coach and everyone with any football knowledge knows that, he got hawaii to the Sugar bowl. His offense is not outdated it simply takes time for a QB to learn it and execute. This is our QB first full season as a starter. His scheme has gotten us to 7 wins with only 4 seniors who start, he is a great recruiter imagine the team with 18 returning starters plus younge guys who played as back ups this year who will push to start. Next year will be the first Jones recruit class to be seniors (even though it is only half a class really because the year you are hired is more the last guy). Just watch Shadowman just watch.
Further even if all your points were true I would still take an outdated scheme with the talent he brings in than Oregon's sceme with the talent Bennet recruited.
Re: Cool Offense June!!!
Glad you finally see the light! And to the previous poster, was well thought out, yes this was a good defense, but we were so anemic and stubborn We need a new offense if June is unwilling to change, we were so predictable and wasted so much time. Just pissed away a great defensive effort. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: Cool Offense June!!!If Jones hired an offensive coordinator why would we need him? His recruitng power is based on his offense. Why don't you just advocate firing Jones which is what you are actually saying. I think that would be wrong. This team still needs a couple more good recruiting years.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Cool Offense June!!!One more thing - look out west - it took 5-7 years before TCU really became a good team after their "commitment" to football. Give it time and stop being a stereotypical smu [deleted] - people like you are part of the problem, not the solution.
Re: Cool Offense June!!!
Good post, we will see who is right. Unless June is willing to change and at least update a little bit, I fear we are in trouble. Offense is all about evolution, and he seems too stubborn to update. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
