Other problems: No turnovers, poor field position

Again, this defense, which played really well today against a very conservative approach, did not create any field position because it did not generate turnovers.

I thought they did a great job today. Frustrating we couldn't cover that fumble early in the second half.

That said, every drive SMU started (except for 1 or 2) started inside its 30. The Jones philosophy is the defense has to create the mistakes so the offense can strike. This is an offense that needs that because it likes to go 80 yards in 5 plays and not 80 yards in 10 plays.

Think about this : SMU is about minus -9 in the turnover ratio this year, is 7-6 and playing one more game. That's really hard to do.

In an unrelated point, I thought Jones' clock management was brutal from about about the 7:30 mark of the 4th quarter to the end.

That said, I love our kids. They compete. They give you everything they have.

I'm disappointed but not really upset.
The bottom line is we weren't the better team. We will learn from this. Sometimes, best lessons are the hard ones. But the program is continuing to trend itself into a position where it will be one.
