June Jones: D played well enough to win
December, 4, 2010

By Richard Durrett
ORLANDO, Texas -- SMU coach June Jones had plenty of compliments for his defense, which held UCF to 17 points in a 10-point loss in the Conference USA championship game.

How rare is it to hold UCF to 17 points? It's happened just once this season, in a 17-13 loss to Kansas State back on Sept. 25.

Yeah...and some bozo in a thread last night was calling for Tom Mason to be fired.

The D was outstanding. And played without its best CB and #3 tackler for most of the game. That was probably the best overall D performance this year against a quality opponent.

2nd fewest points allowed by us all year as well (fewest being 7 against UAB).

not bad on the road, against the 3rd best team we played all year

Please read Kyle P's own statements.
He knows he is not playing well (Very mature and honest young man) and needs to improve.
JJ says the same thing.
D played well.

Not a surprise that someone was calling for Mason's firing. I don't read other fan sites but I suppose, (I hope) that they are also filled with "experts" like we have here. We have many "experts" who obviously know nothing about football but, worse than that, have no historical perspective. After all the many years of mediocre or worse teams it is such a pleasure to see that SMU is relevant again. I wish that people on this site would understand that SMU football is still a program with little depth, has suffered injuries to a lot of key players and is a very young team. On top of that, many seem to fail to understand how difficult it is to win on the road, particularly against a well established program and with a large, hostile crowd.

But he is a scout with many years of experience at the NCAA and NFL levels. Haven't you read his posts before? I have said it befiore and will say it again- that guy is the biggest crock of sh*t on this entire board. I have not read 1 meaningful peice of anlysis that leads me to believe he was even a volunteer assistant much less an employee of an NFL team.
