still on.

Mostly Dale talking about how he got the story...employee at SMU called him, eventually convinced David Stanley to talk to him...SMU was bad, Dale doesnt/didnt feel bad...

Kind of a Dale-fest, really

some talk about A&M misdoings as well regarding recruitment of a QB

another story that I've heard before regarding the Kenneth Davis recruitment occurring on a private plane on a runway, where TCU paid 35k to outbid Nebraska

If Dale had this info, and he's so proud of his investigative work in the SMU situation, why didn't he do investigative work in the other situations?

SMU really was incredibly arrogant in its dealings with the NCAA.

But listening to Hansen call anyone else arrogant rubs me wrong.

last thing he said he joked about Thaddeus...saying "i heard the kid was on the station with somebody and said I'm pompous or arrogant..I worry, because he got that wrong".

to you Calallen's question: Dale said the A&M instance was before David Stanley, and they botched it...which led to the "gotcha" interview w/ Parker, Hitch & Collins.

To Dale's credit, and it pains me to say anything to Dale's credit...

he's a HUGE Nebraska fan, and he *did* air the piece mentioned earlier tin this thread about TCU and Nebraska bidding on a running back.

He *did* air things about other universities. But the others weren't as "in your face" about the payments, or had FAR better liars, and didn't have the Governor of Texas involved. Those stores didn't capture the public's attention like the SMU story did.

during the interview, one of the Musers asked "whatever happened to David Stanley"...to which Dale responded "I dont know...I'd be surprised if he was still alive"

I'm kind of surprised none of them, including Rich, were aware that Stanley's dead.

How eerie is it that Stanley and Stopperich, in the program pictured in Pony Excess, appear right next to one another

Calallen:

He did. Channel 8's Gerry Oher caught A&M QB Kevin Murray in one of the funniest moments ever in Sports Broadcasting. He showed Murray a signed lease agreement to a 280Z or something. Murray puts his hand to his cheek and says "Oh my gosh" And literrally rips it out of Oher's hand and runs off. Belo and the Times Herald nailed TCU too and Kenneth Davis along with 6 others who were kicked off the team. Wacker's famous meeting with the TCU team was the direct result of a newspaper story earlier in that week that the NCAA was on the SMU campus meeting with SMU players concerniong violations about the exact players who were kicked off TCU's team-including Egypt Allen , Kenneth Davis and Gerald Turner(?). I haven't seen Pony Excess yet but I hope they captured the essence of the newspaper war along with Belo that literrally resulted in probations at SMU, TCU, Tech, Oklahoma St, Houston, Texas, Baylor, Arkansas, OU and A&M. It is not accurate that SMU was the only school caught-there maybe something to the argument that SMU was caught in the middle of a media war.

Stallion,

The newspaper war between the Dallas Times Herald and the DMN is prominently featured in the documentary.

Dale saying "I would be suprised if is alive" -- weird. Said David asked for money to tell his story which they didn't provide.

In Thad's interview with the Ticket yesterday, he said that the newspaper war between the DMN and the Times Herald was part of the reason the story was so big. Two papers in one city trying to outdo each other in coverage.

One of the Pony Excess cast members was asked in his interview who else deserved the 'Death Penalty'. his quick answer was , "Dale Hansen."

Of course that didn't make the final cut.
