I watched Pony Excess and kept waiting to hear something about Russ Potts. Did I miss something? I remember him as the most talkative human being on the planet. Can't imagine he wasn't interviewed for this film. Maybe he chose not to co-operate.

I asked that question earlier and heard nothing. He's living out near Berryville, Virginia last I heard. He's retired from the Virginia State Senate. Perhaps, he didn't want to be interviewed since perhaps he's thinking about making another run for governor.

I wish we could get Russ Potts back. He is someone we really need to get advice from concerning Marketing. Also, I'm sure he would have agreed to an interview as he has been interviewed before about SMU's past.

Potts sold a lot of discount tickets in an attempt to get butts in the seats. Sometimes it went too far. I remember, I think it was 1979, he oversold discount seats to a game at Texas Stadium against Baylor. A bunch of local Baylor people snapped up those cheap tickets and many of them were duplicate. I recall fistfights breaking out in the stands. Russ defended the practice because he said airlines often oversold seats because they always counted on a certain number of no-shows. The only really negative thing I had to say about Russ was that he fired Sonny Allen who I thought was a true gentleman.

Oh, to have to be forced to sit in the seat that is indicated on my ticket in Ford Stadium. I will celebrate that day and people will be wondering why I'm so exuberantly happy.

From what I've seen of Russ here in Virginia, like Joe Theismann, he's never met a camera he didn't like. FYI, according to what I've heard, he's raising a lot of money for the high schools in the area of Virginia that he now lives. Perhaps, his old BOG friends are contributors?
