Chris Rentzel (sp) and that Buddecke (sp) guy

Watched it again the other night. Those 2 were really good.

I liked Buddecke's recount of the ED recruitment. Interesting. I liked how he told his mom after the A&M thing "no he doesn't". And then when he said about the NCAA "when they come, you lie."

Rentzel was good especially as the DP was coming.

My questions are:
Are they part of the Naughty 9?
If not, are they still connected to the university? Has anyone seen them lately?
What are they up to these days?

Thanks in advance.

Others may correct me if I am wrong. From memory, buddeke (sp) was part of the naughty nine. He isn't an alum but was a friend of Meyer's.

Rentzel is a former wide receiver and is very much associated with the program. To my knowledge he is and has always been clean. I would be truly astonished is Rentzel was anything but clean.

Saw Rentzel at the Lakewood premiere. He has a spot on the Vard and see him there frequently.

Chris is clean and very very supportive of the program. One of the finest people you could ever meet.

Chris Rentzel was just involved in the legal process during the death penalty. You can see him in the documentary sitting next to F Gregg during some sort of hearing. Chris' brother Lance was a WR in the NFL for the Rams and Cowboys. Chris is a local lawyer and a huge supporter of SMU. He wasn't a big booster (naughty nine) during the 1980s or anything...I think they just interviewed him because of his involvement in the legal process of the entire debacle. He did an awesome job...as did most all of the SMU supporters that got interviewed.

I went to school with his daughter during the DP days. Had no idea he was involved like that. That was awesome.

Sucks that we left his credit the way we did.... I oversaw us changing it to "Frmr. Mustang Club President" (but somehow it got changed back) ... he was in no way involved in any improprieties and is still very much involved with the university.

...

Buddicke is not one of the nine.... when Meyer left he started cutting ties.

It did throw me a little bit that the graphic when Rentzel spoke was something like "SMU Booster 1976-1986." I was thinking, well, he sits next to me at football games why are they saying he stopped being a booster in 1986?

Really I feel bad about that. Here's how good of a dude Rentzel is... it seems likely, though it can't be proven, that our grip (film) truck damaged his building's parking garage gate. I got a call from the office manager from his law firm asking me about it. I checked into it, and all involved said it was bullroar and we had nothing to do with it.

I figured our guys weren't lying but it was still likely our fault. So I called her back and said "my guys think it wasn't us but I can't see anyway it wasn't us with the proof the building folks provided, I can find a way to pay for the repairs if the building people want to blame us, certainly." ... I never heard back from her.

Turns out Rentzel paid for the repairs out of his own pocket no questions asked.

He can do that for me/this film? And we can't give him a more proper credit???? Sigh. It really does make me feel bad. I mean even if he hadn't done us that favor, he doesn't deserve to have the "is he a member of the naughty nine" question asked of him. He and I have spoken about this a lot, lately.

And no way around it "The Rentz" is a great guy.

Thanks for the explanation. Thought it was weird that Sharp's included '-present' and not Rentzel's. I've spilled enough bourbon-laced coke on him from my seats to know he's still a great supporter.

I think you are overselling the amount of coke that is actually in your bourbon and cokes.
