All,
Thought you would enjoy this link to the ticket I had for SMU vs. UNLV that night in Las Vegas. As many of you know, I grew up there and I forgot that I had attended this game.

Anyway, when my dad passed last year, I was going through his things and found this stub. Naturally, I took it. With all of the 1980s talk surfacing and the film, I remembered I had this, so I thought I would share it.

I was 15 and I can remember visiting with some SMU fans in the South end zone during the game. I think that was the team of Don King, Jeff Adkins and Reggie Dupard? I just thought it was cool that a Texas team was in Las Vegas. I probably screwed up telling the SMU fans that I was a Texas fan (but keep in mind SMU really wasn't on my radar and I had no idea of how much hatred there was for the Longhorns). But I did want the Texas team (SMU) to win. I do know that.

SMU won, 38-21.

P.S. A special thanks to HB Pony Dad for helping me get this up.

I believe that UNLV team had Randall Cunningham at QB. I remember him throwing it all over the field.

Yes, it was Cunningham. I was there. Met Lance McIlheney at one of the Black Jack tables and one of the outside linebackers. His name escapes me. Anthony....oh well. It was cold in the end zone, but a fun weekend.

Anthony Beverley. BTW UNLV was 10-1 coming into that game and finished 11-2. Here's a cool site to go back and to check out history about any team from any year

Yes, the Silver Bowl was an aluminum eyesore. And the Silver Bowl sits East of the Strip by about 5-10 miles. Back then, it was in the middle of nowhere.

But at night, it can be an absolute wind tunnel. And in Las Vegas, it can get pretty tough in there in November and December.

As for Cunningham, I think that team played Toledo in the California Rasin Bowl in Fresno. That was the game where the PCAA winner met the MAC champion.

I was there also. Cold night, but it was a dry cold. Liquor served at the concessions. First time I had witnessed that.

The Rebels still play there. TCU was out there earlier this year. I haven't seen the stadium in years but from what I can tell, the upgrades have been so nominal, it's still pretty hideous.

And it's still a wind tunnel.

Good thing my dad didn't use that ticket to get a drink  . Only in Las Vegas.

That was a fun time. We actually flew up the day of the game so we could spend the night there after the game. The Daily Campus had two pictures in it from that game and they were mislabeled. One had Cunningham labeled as yours truly and the other had yours truly recovering a Don King fumble-probably got hit from my man!- labeled as Cunningham. Wish I would have kept that clipping.

I haven't seen a game there yet, but it has been upgraded. http://maps.unlv.edu/sbs.html

Maybe they've done some recent upgrades because this photo makes it look pretty nice: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:UNLVS ... tadium.jpg

BTW It's definitely still a wind tunnel. Anyone watch the BYU game last year (Las Vegas Bowl)? Looked like they were playing in a hurricane.
