He says that we remind him of UH from 1987-93...let's see, that would place him (presumably as the O-Line coach or another facet of the staff) there during the 1989 & 1990 seasons...

...that was when UH ran the Run & Shoot (we did too, but they did it much better than we did...to the tune of putting up over 1k yards offense and 95 pts in a single game against us--yeah yeah, I know that was our first season back).

I would surmise that means he knows how to teach pass-blocking & traps, draws, counters, and screens in a 1-back offense. I guess we shall see.

Let's hope coach Vinklarek can make a difference and convince at least one big OL to join this year's recruiting class. I like the idea of keeping things simple, because besides Hargis, Kieschnick, Eidson and Neal, he's going to be working with all Frosh and Sophs.

He sounds to me like a terrific teacher. If he was hired in the NFL, it's not just because he has friends in high places, although that certainly doesn't hurt. But you don't get hired as an NFL coach without being seriously qualified (unless you were on the pre-Parcells staffs in Dallas). I bet there will be an entirely new flavor/feel to the offensive line, starting in the spring.

And once again, terrific job with the story. Once again, you've given us a lot more than the DMN or the Daily Campus ever does.

Does the D.C. even know we have new coaches?
I agree that Coach Vinklarek sounds like he is a tactician who can relate well to players -- sometimes that's the most important part. Great job, webguys!

Over the course of a season an offense goes as far as its offensive line takes it.

I am excited about Coach Vinklarek and what he brings to SMU.
