If SMU is going to beat Army Dec. 30 in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, the Mustangs will have to keep the Black Knights' triple-option offense. To that end, the Ponies have called on freshman defensive back Hayden Greenbauer — an option quarterback in high school — to run the scout team offense in practice. After impersonating Army quarterback Trent Steelman in practice Monday morning, Greenbauer visited with PonyFans.com to discuss how he runs the offense, and whether the defense looks any different to him since playing against Navy earlier this season.
Greenbauer definitely seems like a great kid. SMU is lucky to have a person of his caliber on the team, along with Steven Kaiser (#12) and Billy Embody (#8) who are the QB's that run scout team on a normal basis. There are a number of very impressive guys on this team. Looking forward to a great bowl game!
What a sharp guy — no wonder he can learn the SMU defense and run the option offense. Great job getting this interview, too. Nobody else goes beyond the easy "gimme" interviews like you do. By the way, how is he doing on defense?
