SMU Blvd about to be closed for a few months

Postby Pony!Poni!Pone'! » Wed Dec 22, 2010 4:42 pm

Construction activities require the closing of SMU Boulevard (indicated in red on the map below) to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from Dublin Street to the southbound access road of North Central Expressway from January 3, 2011, through late summer. This closure also will include the sidewalks on both sides of the street.

Entry to campus off of North Central Expressway will be from University or Mockingbird.

The closing will require a temporary rerouting for Mustang Express. A map of the temporary route is being developed by Park ‘N’ Pony and will be available before January 3. A temporarily stop will be placed at University Boulevard and Airline Road.

More details will be provided as the project progresses. The University apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

What's happening?
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

I think they are going to pave it over and stripe it to look like a parking lot for the real tailgating atmosphere.

then why are they waiting until Jan 3?

fortunately for the KA's, the undergrads don't get back in the house until next fall.

BTW, if you weren't aware, Kappa Alpha Order was kicked off campus a year and a half ago, and was able to get reinstated ahead of schedule. active charter now, but need a spring pledge class to afford to get the house back.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

I know they've cleared all the trees on the land across from the presidential library space, Maybe they're going to start work on the new parking garage.

My understanding is that's all going to be surface parking - residents across the alley and nearby raised a bit of a ruckus.

And there's also this construction fun on the other side of campus...

If you look at the presidential library plans, you will note that SMU Blvd. is proposed to have a curved alignment where it is currently as straight as an arrow. I would suspect they are closing it down to construct the revised layout for SMU Blvd.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
