No WAC academic honors for SMU footballers

SMU is the only WAC school who did not have even one player make the WAC football academic honors list. The players had to have a 3.2 average and play in half of the games to qualify. So much for our vaunted admissions process for student athletes, or our coaches emphasis on studying.

How is this possible? I walked through the hallways outside the lockerroom a couple of months back, and there's a board touting the academic exploits of several SMU players, some of whom have GPAs well over 3.2. Is there some wrinkle in the process we don't know about?

This is a great sign we are geting better athletes. They can keep the academic window dressing - I want some talented flunkies.

If there's more than one conference player, at a particular position, with a stellar (equal) GPA, I think they give it to the one who's the better player. That may have been where we ran into trouble. I'd be interested to see how our overall football GPA compares with the rest of the WAC.
