Just in case one has any lingering doubts that the NCAA has multiple standards depending on the school

One should never be surprised at the level of bias incorporated by the NCAA.

The only thing the NCAA consistently does to enforce rules is to ignore schools/players that break them---------oh, with the exception of a small, Methodist one in Dallas!

Still no explanation why the player will miss some games next year, but play

in this years bowl game?

Had it been Texas, and the players seniors, playing out their last year, the penalties would have been more severe--no games at all next year!

And no bowl game this year.

No I meant that they would be permitted to play in the bowl game and the penalty would have no effect as they would have completed their eligibility anyway.

Just what penalty would the NCAA have levied had the OSU players been seniors?

Except that Texas doesn't have a bowl game this year

The ncaa would have said no bowl game this year.

They explained it in detail. Not necessarily a good explanation but they did explain. Had to do with the kids not being schooled in the do's and don'ts properly.

The NCAA always explains why they make the decisions they do. It is just that most of the reasons are not very good.

Of course. We are all unique in our own ways. Some kids you coddle and some you treat with tough love. The NCAA is a model for varying types of parenting methods. Of course we were the "beat them until they bleed and then beat them some more" method.

and it drove us to abuse ourselves like a depressed teenager, until we finally moved out and matured and started seeing Drs. Orsini & Jones

No one likes to re-hash what happened in the 80s and I am not defending cheating. But the best thing we could have done for all of college football would have been for the university to sue the NCAA in a Dallas district court and then depose our players about offers they recieved from other schools, subpoena the people we knew were paying players at other schools, and embarass everyone. Everyone who cheats should be treated the same but weren't.

Since when is ignorance of the law a viable defense?

It's all relative to the nature and severity of the violation. Can't give "everyone" who "cheats" the same punishment. That in itself would be unfair.
