The Rose Bowl Game

I've grappled over who I would support between Wisconsin vs. TCU.

To be frank, I can't stand either.

TCU is our arch rival (Go SMU! Beat Army -- BADLY!!)
Wisconsin is Minnesota's arch rival (The Red Army makes me puke)

But in the end, it came down to one thing: My connection with SMU is strong. And under no circumstances will I support TCU in this game. I know there are some TCU fans that want to see SMU do well and that's great. But I can't deny how I feel about that school and how I want to beat them at every turn.

Yes, I live in Fort Worth and am surrounded by TCU fans and friends. And should TCU win, I would be happy for those people.

However, I just can't do it. It would be like Alabama fans pulling for Auburn in the NC game. How happy were OU people when Texas lost the NC game last year? To me, this follows that same pattern.

The argument was brought to me, "Well, you need to support the Texas team." Sounds good. Won't happen.

Thus, I'm going with Wisconsin. Not because I really want to, and I think their coach Bret Bielema is an [deleted]. But I will say my passion for the Big 10 will remain and good Big 10 fans usually support each other in the postseason.

So go Bucky....I guess.

My guess is that most Big 10 fans think Wisconsin is going to thump TCU and most NAQ fans are going to be pulling for TCU in this one. I'm expecting this to be a good game. TCU has been given an opportunity to show they can play with the big boys. Most critics will look at their schedule and say they haven't played a really good team all year.

It is in SMU's best interests to pull for the Froggies as anytime a small private University beats the cartel it helps SMU's climb back into the national discourse.

In addition I met George, a TCU alum, at 1st and 10 last Sunday who became my designated driver after my Bloody Mary breakfast and lunch. :D

I am so mixed on this game. I hate TCU with a passion, almost as much as I hate UT. However, I want to see Mid-Majors make good showings which will help all Mid-Major programs. To be able to tell a recruit that you don't have to go to a BCS school and ride the pine for 2 or 3 years before you can show your talents on the big stage, is priceless. So who do I support? The program that could possibly help SMU or the program that is playing my arch rival.

It was so much easier last year with Boise playing TCU.

That would still be a loss and they would be instantly dismissed out of hand in the national psyche as a "wannabe" - and suffer the same fate as Boise did by losing that one game - which cost them $16 mil. Would definitely hurt the NAQ quest for breaking up the BCS cartel, too.

And that is the only, and I mean only, reason to hope TCU wins - to help SMU down the road.
