SMU Sells Out Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Allotment
Mustang Fans Snap Up 10,000 Tickets; Only Standing-Room Spots Remain

Dec. 29, 2010

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU has sold out its allotment of 10,000 tickets for the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Allotment and only standing-room tickets remain.

"As I stated earlier, the demand is similar to what we saw earlier this season for the SMU-TCU game," said SMU Director of Athletics Steve Orsini. "We are extremely proud of how the Mustang Nation responded and we believe Ford Stadium will offer another great college game day atmosphere on December 30th."

To meet the high demand, the SMU Ticket Office will be selling standing room-only tickets for $10 each for the SMU-Army meeting at 11 a.m. CT on Thursday, Dec. 30, at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. The remaining tickets are now on sale and fans should act quickly. To place an order, call 214-SMU-GAME (768-4263).

SMU is competing in the NCAA postseason for the second-straight year after capturing the C-USA West Division with a 6-2 record in 2010. The Mustangs are 7-6 after facing a challenging schedule, as seven of the Mustangs' opponents this season earned bowl bids.

"This is great news for us," said Brant B. Ringler, Executive Director of the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. "Both Army and SMU did an outstanding job in promoting the sale of the tickets for our game to their fans. Combined with our pre- and post-event activities December 30, there will be a great deal of excitement on the Hilltop."

Red and Blue for me, June said in an interview yesterday that we may look outnumbered, so

why make it look even worse by not wearing red and blue?

It may have been a sellout but I saw a lot of fans disguised as empty seats especially in the endzone. What gives? Did a big backer buy a bunch of tickets and fail to hand them all out?

There was a respectable crowd, but they announced over 37,000 which I believe was more than the record for TCU. No way with the empty end zone seats and plenty of room on the grassy knoll.

I believe the attendance figure is tickets sold, not butts in seats. They were tearing stubs on the tickets, not scanning a bar code, as we entered the game. No way they counted them all.

And then when the PA guy announced the attendance, I kept waiting for him to say it was a record. He never did. Would have gotten a nice cheer from the crowd if he had.

Another example of bad game presentation - someone should have had the PA guy prepped to announce it as a record. We knew well before the game it would be a sellout.
