DJ didn't sound like someone that wasn't coming back in the post game press conference.
Talked about being a leader next season. I guess we'll see how it plays out.

Maybe he goes to JUCO for a semester and gets his grades back on track, or he retakes his courses and passes them this semester and gets caught up in summer school. Hopefully, he'll be back. He looked like an answer. Question what's with Fields. I did not see him today. Is he being medically redshirted? Or is he in the doghouse?

that just sounded like player talk, nothing really definitive...i don't remember him red-shirting, so would he able to use that next year, and get his grades up??

Keep in mind that he could be suspended from football but not be kicked out of school - he could have Spring and Summer to get his grades up and pass appropriate courses to get back on the degree track and be immediately eligible for the fall.

Fields is not eligible for a medical hardship, and before anyone asks, either is Pope. They are now both true sophs.

On The Ticket post game RP asked if either Fields or Pope would see more playing time next year. JJ said no and that Line is our guy and he earned it. JJ even said they will look at position changes for "them" to get them on the field (not sure if that means one or both). RP was kind of taken aback by that answer and frankly so was I. Taking nothing away from Line, but Fields is just too damn good not to get some touches. We could really use him as a safety valve pass catching threat out of the backfield.
Pure speculation on my part, but I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if we see one or both transfer. I hope they don't because we are one play away from needing a new starter.

Niemchi is coming in next year and will also be expecting play time. RB is a hard position on the knees. Remember the shot that Butler took on his knee that sidelined him for the remainder of the year 2 years ago? Generally you need at least 4 running backs in case of injury. After Fields and Pope, who else is there that is as capable? BTW I thought that Pope was the next Earl Campbell?

Earl Campbell is not playing now either.
