BRISTOL, Conn. — ESPN pulled announcer Ron Franklin from its radio coverage of Saturday's Fiesta Bowl after he reportedly berated a female colleague.

Sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards wrote in an e-mail to USA Today in response to Internet reports that Franklin called her "sweet baby" in a condescending tone Friday. When she objected, he used a derogatory term. Edwards said a colleague reported the incident to ESPN officials.

Franklin said in a statement released by the network: "I said some things I shouldn't have and am sorry. I deserved to be taken off the Fiesta Bowl."

ESPN said in a statement that "adhering to our personal conduct policies and showing respect for colleagues are of the utmost importance to our company."

 I hate Beamer because of what they did on opening day with the largest crowd in commonwealth history on ESPN . UCF throws an interception and my kid playing RT does not have his head on a swivel and the DT that could not get around him the entire game [deleted] up with a cheap shot. Only time he ever got knocked down it was UGLY . Thank god the ESPN cameras missed it. So Frank gives the game film to his brother to use as crunch of the week for his potato chip company on the web. I threw a fit and they took it down. I always like to see a good clean hit but not a cheap shot when a kids hurt. Did I tell you I hate VT

First, though, the good news: 6’8", 340 OT Kyle Watkins is a returning starter that has a reputation as a very good pass blocker. In fact, he has never given up a sack in college. With his frame, he will get a serious NFL look.
