Yes, but only once in a 21-6 win over the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station team in 1942. Unsure if it was the start of wearing black to support the troops or just a coincidence. We beat them pretty handily, but they were a young team and ended up beating the Japanese on their home turf.

I've got a picture from the game and the helmet mentioned around here somewhere.

Hey 94, not sure if you're being serious or not, but you can see that the pic of the helmet was taken in the SMU locker room area. And the Calgary CFL team has always worn a red helmet with white pony as far as I can tell.

The pic of the black helmet does look pretty homemade though, the outline of the pony isn't consistent all the way around and the tail looks like its peeling off or something.

This is a picture of the SMU Black helmet that was thought to go with the Armed Forces Bowl uniform. It obviously was not worn, but photos of a black helmet and black pants were reported by a reporter on a Dallas sports radio station. This photo is real (in SMU Locker Room) and obviously current. We will probably see it next season.

They should have busted out black pants and black helmets in the bowl game, it looked almost halfway done with a black jersey and the traditional white helmets and pants.

if for one special game, maybe once every few years, I am okay with it.

Hell, even Stanford has broken out the black jerseys, and black is nowhere in their school colors. And arguably, they have just as much if not more tradition than we do fellas.

They look terrible....that's the issue...They were cool in 1997...

I'd rather they devote the time to some Royal Blues....
