Experienced QBs Win Football Games

For all those casual football fans out there-let's take a look at the Top 25 NCAA QBs based on QB Rating who are Sophomores with only 2 years in programs or Freshmaen. There are 3 and most are in run first offenses.

No. 14 Aaron Murray Georgia Fr. (who enrolled early at midterm) Team Record 6-7, 3-5 SEC
No. 15 Jeff Godfrey UCF Fr Team Record 11-3 CUSA Champs
No. 20 Denard Robinson Michigan Sophomore Team Record 7-6, 3-5 Big 10

So I guess the claim that it is so easy for a Freshman or a true Sophomore to learn the intricacies of a passing offense really doesn't seem to be true. In fact a very high percentage are in their 3, 4 or 5th years on campus-as a bunch were redshirted. 88% were not freshman or true Sophomores-and really can anyone claim those 3 were running what could be described as a complex passing scheme? Note: Redshirt Sophomores in their 3rd year on campus include Andrew Luck, Landry Jones and Darron Thomas. 100% of those QBs in BCS Bowls are Juniors or above or have 3 years in the program. Only 1 of these guys won a conference Title or a Bowl Game. Everybody relax with Padron and let him mature. You'd think SMU fans who have watched the Parade of This Year's Phenom over the last 15 years would have some appreciation for this quite obvious fact

Remember the days when our offense was literally Kincaide up the middle, Kindcaide off the tackle, Kincaide on the dive because we didn't have a QB that could complete passes.

Don't forget the all important Kincaide fumble on the goal line.

I swear there was a game in the Bennett era where we Got the ball back in a close game and I was legitimately disappointed because i thought the odds of SMU scoring on a defensive turnover where better than the offense putting a scoring drive together.

Does video exist of the unforced fumble on the 1or 2-yard line after he broke a long run? Most bizarre play I've ever witnessed in person.

I'm hoping this year was a sophomore slump and Padron is stellar the next two years and Kaiser or Conner pick up well as upperclassmen. hate breaking in young qb's every other year

Another interesting stat: LaMichael James of Oregon was 4th in the nation in rushing with 1,682 yards and a 6.0 average. Zach Line was 11th with 1,494 yards and a 6.1 average.

I heard that one on the radio. 98 yard run with a fumble lost. One yard line to one yard line.

That's probably about right, but even then, he split time that season with Chris Sanders!

Zach Line had a great year. Who could have imagined? Last year at this time everyone was counting on 2 guys still in high school to replace SM. Zach's break out year was huge, and he returns for 2 more.

Indeed - threat on the ground can only help the threat in the air.

Who was the Juco Qb (at least I think he came from Juco) in 2005? Wasn't it Romo? Wasn't he a senior?
