Lot across from CVS/Barnes and Noble

While at the Starbucks at Mockingbird and 75 today, I noticed the construction across the street . The barista said that it is some kind of sporting facility for SMU, which he thought was going new tennis courts. Anyone know what they are building there? Why not the indoor practice facility! Seems perfect. Did they knock down the old tennis courts for the Bush Library? Sorry if this has been posted...

Cleared lot will be for new Tennis facility- indoor and outdoor; throwing field for track, Computer and electrical buildings for the school. IPF can't be built there due to restrictions for contaminated soil and water that would be cost prohibitive to correct.
The new outdoor tennis facility will replace the two year old Turpin Tennis Center that is south of the Crum Basketball practice facility. It is being replaced with a parking garage for the new sophomore housing.
Location of IPF still being discussed.

Someone said the brand new tennis courts were not surfaced correctly and were not set right with spacing. This seems idiotic to me for a new project - who oversees this stuff??
Time to do away with intramuruals or move them to Glencoe Park. Need a IPF in that location immediately.

Where did you hear that about the groundwater impacting the IPF? I know that the groundwater caused them to not be able to build dorms over there as originally planned, but I never heard that about the IPF.

Why are we building another throwing field? I know the old one at Central was torn down for the library, but they have already built a new one on Yale/SMU Blvd about a block east of Central (old site of UA Cine). Maybe that is the site we need to look at for an IPF.

Because the plan is to roll up the courts in the offseason and plant soybeans.
