Ok, not to be a wet blanket, but what athletics did we have in 1911? I thought classes didn't start until 1915.

Again, I'm not trying to be a d!ck, just curious. And I'm sure I'll be buying this book.

You are correct, founded in 1911 and operations began in 1915.
Oct. 16, 1912 was the day the cornerstone was laid for Dallas Hall.

If I recall it was a pleasant day. A little chilly with a slight wind but sunny skies. Is that how you remember it PK?

We operated a medical school prior to 1915. We sold it in order to get enough money to start undergraduate classes.

And the medical school is called Southwestern because we bought it from Southwestern University in Georgetown, which almost merged with Polytechnic in Fort Worth (now Texas Wesleyan). When they decided not to merge, SMU was founded.

This isn't a topic that I would have normally raised on a sports related message board, but why doesn't SMU have a medical school today? It just seems a little strange for a school trying to be top 50 to not have one. Just curious really.

I think it has to do with $$$ and that there's already a med school in town (when UTSW was founded, it was largely in response to Dallas city leaders lobbying for a med school).
