I'm reading the QB depth chart that several of you have posted for next year but I don't see Ricky Joe Meeks on your list. My understanding is that he rates higher than others on the defensive reads tests. I have a family member who coaches in East Texas and he said that Meeks is a very good quarterback and also an excellent punter.

some have forgotten that Ricky Joe was Bennett's 1st recruiting target after he took the SMU job. The competition for the QB spot promises to be very healthy. After 0-12, I think we are looking at healthy competition at plenty of positions.

Well, Hello Meeks people. It's about time ya'll jumped in. Good Luck. Don't say punter. Just say Quarterback. Dam! that was a close one. :pinch:

Who's to say he couldn't do both?

How about a little Danny White action as the backup QB punting the ball on fake 4th downs?
Just need some WRs turned into Gunners, and use a few of those big blocking RB/FBs to go out in the pattern...

As
I remember... Craig James punted in 83.
Right?
I remember we had another but he was like at the shrink so he could focus on kicking better.
WE had all the tools back then.

Didn't Craig James take over after an injury to Eric Kaifes? I think that Whit Smith was the one who went to the hypnotist. Anyone remember?

James was an ecellent punter. He could avergae well over 40 yds a kick.

Back to the topic

. Ricky Joe Meeks is definately in the 4 deep at QB. It will be interesting to see during the spring where he comes out of the competition.
Personally, I hope that one of the JUCO QBs steps up and wins the job, because it would be nice to have an upperclassman at QB. And then have PHillips and Meeks fight it out for the backup position.

You don't want the other JUCO as the backup? That would allow Phillips and Meeks a full year to learn the new offense and leave both as sophomores next year, considering Meeks burned his redshirt in 2003 and Phillips could do the same this year.
Think how big Phillips is now. If he redshirts, imagine what a beast he'll be when he's a 22-year-old senior!
