I certainly hope this is just rumor.
Randy Shannon to UCLA Speculation Gets Stronger Bruin Report Online has heard a reliable report that Randy Shannon, the former head coach of the Miami Hurricanes, has agreed to be UCLA's new defensive coordinator..
Randy Shannon, the former head coach and defensive coordinator of the Miami Hurricanes, looks to be UCLA's next defensive coordinator.
A source who is close to one of UCLA's recruits told us that a UCLA coach called the recruit last night and told him that the deal is done for Shannon, and just the contract needed to be signed.
Other recruits have also indicated they heard the same.
It was known that Shannon was on campus Sunday to meet with UCLA Head Coach Rick Neuheisel.

I get why he doesn't want it to happen but isn't a rivalry much better when the other team is at least competitive. It not like hiring Shannon is going to put UCLA in USC's league it will just take them closer to mediocre.

You do realize we have a scholarship penalty to be paid for the next few years and unfortunately USC is now trending closer to mediocrity.

Yes I realize this. Are you really worried about UCLA? They have to break in new coordinators this year and probably a new head coach the next. They have along way to go to get back to decent. Sad thing is that with the way things are going for UCLA right now, USC may have more athletes on scholarship even with the NCAA sanctions.

UCLA's recruiting class is horrible. Like Sunbelt conference bad. Seriously, how hard would it be to recruit to Westwood? The only explanation is that the coach has given up.
Randy Shannon was a failure at Miami. Talk about another easy job to put together a good team - every kid in America would consider going to the U. If a S. Florida coach can't do well in Miami, how will he do in California?

I think you need to check in with Joe Bruin in the Marina Pub and see if he's okay with this.
Tommy Trojan might be laughing too hard at this -

I could never say Shannon was a failure at Miami. He was very goal minded to recruit kids he could get into school and graduate. Graduation of the kids was one of his promises to the parents and took precidence when he got them on campus. If he had one problem it was trying to actually recruit student athletes with decent morals who would go to class and graduate unlike many of Miami's historic misfits.

I wrote in another post... Shannon will be really good at UCLA. He is very similar to PB (not the mouth however). He was a terrific Coordinator and a terrible HC. He will start bringing talent into Westwood. It is possible that UCLA really wants to have a back up plan in place.
