MARGUS HUNT: Surgery means no spring football

Postby PonyPride » Sat Feb 12, 2011 5:43 pm

In a little over a week, sophomore defensive end Margus Hunt is scheduled to undergo a surgical procedure to repair an injury he thinks started years ago. Hunt visited with PonyFans.com to discuss how serious the injury might be, how it affects him and when he expects to return to the field.

MARGUS HUNT: Surgery means no spring football

Postby Junior » Sat Feb 12, 2011 6:09 pm

Sucks he's missing spring ball. He can always benefit from more and more reps. Hopefully, he'll be 100% in a few months. I like the thought of a 6-7 295 lb DE.

If it really is a SLAP tear, then it's definitely better to get treatment done sooner than later. It's one of those injuries where pushing through the pain does nothing except make it worse. Also, after rehab he'll probably see some improvements with the shoulder, like if he was hitting any strength plateaus he should be able to get even stronger (again, hard to imagine I know).

Hope he gets better soon.

On a related note, my son's 6th grade World Geography class is studying Eastern Europe and each student has to pick a country and write a comprehensive report. He chose Estonia, and included a picture of Margus throwing the discuss in the "Popular Sports" section.

Best wishes for a quick recovery. Margus has millions waiting for him in the NFL. The combination of size, athleticism, and strength which Margus has is extremely rare. So glad we have him for two more seasons.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Best wishes as well. In fact I saw him walking on campus today, I am amazed at how huge of a guy he is. I'm taller than most people, but he dwarfed me by a mile.

There was some nice 10 minute interview with Margus in one of Estonian media outlets about a month ago, back when he visited Estonia few weeks after the bowl game. Anyways it was in Estonian and I can't find the link any more, but one could really get a sense from it that his focus between 2 sports was starting to lean towards football.

He did say that he will keep throwing discus and working on it this summer, but also mentioned how his workouts, strength training etc are more built for football this year and less on discus.

Said how he plans to give his maximum next 2 years to prove his scholarship is not being paid for nothing and in hopes to secure good drafting position. And if that should work out well, then he would take the shot, if not, he still has good education from SMU and world open for him.

Also said how he has learned and improved a ton from playing as a starter this season, that there is a new talented class coming up this year and how team is heading towards right direction despite a few "silly" losses last season.

Great clip. Never apologize for posting something like that. It helps we spectators to know our players better.

Margus Hunt showed up in the weight room Thursday, with his left arm in a sling and his forearm held away from his torso by a cushion that was rigged to the sling. He said doctors told him the surgery he had Monday to repair his labrum "went well" and that the damage to his labrum was not as bad as initially feared. The surgery, he said, was performed through three small incisions, and doctors reported no damage to his rotator cuff.
