Right now. Talking about the University and the Bush Library right now. I think he is on for a couple of hours so he might talk about other facility improvements. He did say that the current endowment is $1.1 billion.

He is discussing the athletic programs and the deficit right now. The operational deficit has declined by $3 million per year and is expected to continue to decline. Talking about the huge salaries for basketball and football and the Knight commission.

Interesting that only 14 schools in 2010 managed to break even or come out ahead in college athletic budgets.

Talking about the Death Penalty and the effect that it had. He also said that the end of the Southwest Conference was a double wammy at that time. He thinks that schools are a little more honest now. Some schools have come close to getting the death penalty but he thinks that the NCAA has been reluctant to administer.

On another note, SAT scores have increased from 1140 to 1240 right now and hopes to get it up to 1300 in the near future. Tuition $37,000. Overall $49,000 and next year will go to $52,000.

13,000 applications for 1,400 openings for the freshman class, according to Turner.

Ok, I didn't have to take SAT's as an undergrad (ACT only), but is that out of 2400? If so, I'm just a little surprised it's that low really (not to say I could have done much better...).

No, they still quote the 1600 figure, as there would be no way to compare to years past if you tabulate it out of the new 2400.

Turner implied that they don't place much emphasis written portion of the SAT into account right now.

Applications up by 40% this past year - the SAT will jump a bunch I would guess - might get pretty close to 1300 avg. That is a big move in a year.

we passed A&M and are just outside the top 50 nationally - very close. UT and Rice above us - but UT by not much. Other Tx privates not in same teer.

As Orsini has said time and time again: If a college is a house, the athletics program is the front porch. A nice looking front porch attracts a lot more potential buyers than something that looks terrible.
