kind of a slip of the tongue/off hand comment but with bombshell ranifications-let me guess 64 schools in 4 BCS Conferences playing round-robin NCAA Football Tournament for BCS Championship:
Sandy question #4: What's going on with BCS contraction? Will we see fewer BCS conferences in the near future?
Response: This is on the minds of all AD’s right now, as we’re discussing the feasibility of contracting from 6 BCS conferences down to 4 within 4-5 years.

Big 12 or Pac 12? The only schools left that could fill a 16 team "Western Conference" belong to those 2 conferences

I agree, but I will get some joy if TCU finds itself back on the outside of the BCS in 2015.

If they are contracting the conferences in order to put some sort of playoff system in place then maybe, just maybe, there is some hope for the BCS. They can argue in the face of logic all they want but the fact remains that a playoff system is by far the best and most logical thing for college football, not to mention the most profitable for all parties involved.
The current system defies conventional logic and literally leaves piles of cash on the table. It's so crooked it makes my head spin.
If any of you haven't read Death to the BCS then you really should. I think it is a pretty safe bet to say that any major moves the BCS makes in the near future are, in some way or another, a response to the arguments/allegations laid out in that book.
But, if the BCS keeps digging deeper in to the hole they are already in, then it is just a matter before some sort of legal action with strong merit is filed. There is no way they are not restraining trade or doing something that should be illegal.

As long as we're one of the 64 teams, great. Otherwise...

Its basically the 64 big schools and their desire to not share anything with the other 58 or so other schools. Having a good team is only a minor consideration as to who gets into the club. Being Big is more important. SMU needs to start winning a bunch of games very soon. Teams like Iowa State and Baylor have no hope. TCU probably gets in, but only if they keep winning. Other schools, like Vanderbilt, might have the same kind of achievements as Baylor, but Vanderbilt has powerful friends that might stick up for them. Its all a bunch of BS, but it will probably happen.
