It's going to be fun watching Gene Smith look at the media with a straight face and explain that Jim Tressel is a good, honorable coach and they fully support him:

And just for redpony's sake, I hope this leads to the complete downfall of THE Ohio State and the Big Ten+2, because I think it would make our country a better place, don't you?

I am sure it would be a lot easier for him to do that than Deloss claiming the same for Mack Brown. The whorens, Alabama, Auburn and Fla. will never be questioned because they send monthly checks to the scumbags at the Ncaa.
BTW- Most recent scandals??? Tell me about the other ones. Your hate for the Big 10 is so obvious..and your accusation so ignorant.

GO PONIES!!!

For the same transgressions, Mack Brown would have gotten a raise.

Anyone else have to choke back laughter when Tressel called Ohio State "the greatest university in America"?

I would have thought the punishment should have at east been equal to that of the players since he was in on the knowledge of the misdoings early on and has leadership and contractual responsibilities. Oh well.

My favorite line from Tressel was (paraphrasing here) when he said he didn't report what he knew because he didn't know to whom he should pass along the information.

Really? The head coach at a major, high-profile football program didn't know who to report it to? Like ... say ... the compliance department? Every coach in America is intimately familiar with the compliance department at his or her school. Even if he thought for some reason that it was not something to be handled by Ohio State's compliance department, you can bet your last nickel the compliance department would refer him to the proper department to handle it (and he knew damn well that it was a compliance issue).

The fact that he stood there and said "uh, gee, I didn't know how to handle it" is insulting to his own university and everyone (in attendance and on TV) listening to his idiotic explanation.

The deception merited more than two games, and this charade of an explanation merits even more.

Does this mean that Tressel is going to coach all week and not be there on Sunday? Or does this mean that he is away from the program for the week leading up to the game?

I am not anti-Big Ten, but it will be interesting to see how the NCAA tries to shove this one under the rug. imagine if this happened at Ohio University. The NCAA would be sharpening their pitchforks to massacre the coach and the school.

I actually think its a somewhat reasonable punishment considered in a vacuum. However, I think the NCAA was misled by Ohio St prior to their BCS game-if these facts had come to light before the Bowl Game I think these players wouldn't have been allowed to play because Ohio St had a competitive advantage due to playing known ineligible players during the season. I think Ohio St -the university-should also be additionally punished by the NCAA because it did not fully disclose the information availiable to it.

Well redpony, I did not intend or realize that I had posted such a one-sided comment against THE Ohio State or The Big Ten. However, if that is the vibe I am putting out, then let me make a few quick edits to my original post and I'm sure I can do a better job.

I think its funny that you are trying to make OSU look like they are the victims here. Rest assured that if UT, Bama, Auburn, and FLA are sending monthly checks to the NCAA that OSU is doing the same.

Its amazing how many people go through life spouting their beliefs disguised as facts without the slightest attempt to support them.
