One mantra of coaching suggests that in-season practices are dedicated to teaching team drills, schemes and strategies, while spring workouts offer players more individual instruction. Freshmen like SMU linebacker Randall Joyner begin their first spring workouts in early April, but Joyner's preparation has been slowed by an unusual injury. Joyner visited with PonyFans.com to discuss how likes playing linebacker for the first time in years, how he got hurt, the prognosis for a full recovery and how much he expects to do during spring ball.
Enjoy!

Good report, PP. I wasn't aware that he had moved positions.
Hope the hand feels better soon.

I hate to see Youri Yenga and Pete Fleps go, but I'm starting to think we'll be pretty deep at linebacker.
Before you even mention the guys coming in next year, you've got:
Taylor Reed
Ja'Gared Davis
Cameron Rogers
Byron Brown
Randall Joyner
Braden Smith
Uchenna Nwabuike
Lincoln Schick (my pick as the sleeper who could really emerge in 2011)
John Bordano
Aaron Davis
Victor Jones
Robert Parker
Craig Jackson
There's a lot of speed in that group, and better depth than we have had in years. Add the incoming freshmen ... not a bad group at all.

Joyner got after it on special teams like someone stole from him. I'm eager to see what he can do on defense.

Are they moving Davis back to lb? Also, don't forget Pope and Fields will be moved to lb in the spring.
