He's in his early 20s, his career is on hold while the players and owners thumb-wrestle over a few billion dollars, and he had a few beers. Doesn't sound like anyone was hurt.

There's a little-known caveat in the law defining public intox. When someone from another school does it, it's a big deal and reflects poorly on their institutions. When one of our guys does it, it's a youthful indescretion. Boys will be boys, and whatnot.

Besides, he's innocent until proven guilty, dammit.

We've all made mistakes. It's during these times that we need the support of our friends and family. Let's all keep Bryan in our thoughts and prayers. And let's keep positive thoughts that all of this can quickly be put behind him.

pretty much a non-story unless someone got hurt or there was assault, battery etc.
Way to go DMN

Damn shame. Bryan knows better and should not have put himself in that situation.
As a player representing the NFL, SMU & the Cowboys it looks poorly on all.
OOPS!

Assuming you didn't hurt anybody, all you really need to do to get thrown in the drunk tank is to annoy the cop - yes I had a little experience with this in Dallas. It is the cop's discretion. The cops don't want to bother with the paperwork on a public intox, unless you or one of your friends annoy him. In that cas his buddies show up and you spend the night in a urine and vomit scented room. A non-story unless you play football in college or in the NFL.

bunch of my friends got thrown in the drunk tank once out of Trees in Deep Ellum a while back. They had a raid and my friend wasn't even drunk. Didn't have any chance to defend himself - cops put a big group of people overnight. It was unreal.

Maybe he was a jack@ss but..I guess we'll never know.

"I was not intoxicated and did not pose a danger to myself or others," McCann said in a statement released through his agent, John Biggins. "I am very grateful that, due to the Constitution and Americans' strong and enduring belief in due process, I am presumed innocent of this public intoxication charge because I am innocent."

Spending most of my career in law enforcement I am aware that most police do not just arbitrarily bag someone and charge them with public intoxication. My experience is that the police are seldom wrong and that they hesitate to make an arrest unless the situation poses a threat to the person, public safety and/or other provoking actions such as failure to cooperate, verbal abuse, group obnoxiousness...etc. are involved. As the late Paul Harvey used to say, " and now the the rest of the story." My guess is that someone involved really mouthed off to the cops and the rest is now history.

In Virginia, that's the case. In DC, they have a 24 hour mandatory psych hold for folks who really tick off the cops. "He was acting crazy". 24 hours in St. E's in a rubber room without shoes, shoe laces, belt, etc. Then they have a hearing and you're found to be sane.

What is weird about this story is that it was the lead story on channel 8 news last night. Obviously the news director thinks this is higher priority than the war in Libya or the disaster in Japan. And just as interesting they made sure to indicate that McCann was from SMU almost as much as that he was a Cowboy.

Who the heck is the news director at WFAA on Saturday night? Why is the lead story a 2nd string player on a crap [deleted] Cowboy team in non season when all the players are unemployed had too many beers?
