Any news or rumors as to who might join the staff as a new coach in some capacity? Spring ball is approaching.

Sadly it won't be Jerry Glanville since he's going to be coaching the Hartford franchise in the UFL.

Gansz was at UCLA for three seasons and helped develop kicker Kai Forbath, who won the Lou Groza Award in 2009. Gansz is being considered for a spot at SMU, among other schools, according to a person familiar with the situation who was not authorized to speak on the subject.

Bolding is mine. Interesting...

Wasn't I posting about Gansz Jr. months ago? That would be a good hire for SMU. Gansz Jr. has recruiting ties to Northern California, so his recruiting responsibilities would be complimentary to Klemm's Southern California base.

I agree that SMU needs a coach with Texas recruiting ties similar to the ties Klemm has in Southern California. But don't those coaches already work for Texas, A&M, etc.? I haven't seen many coaches at non-AQ schools that could beat out USC, Oregon and others in Southern California like Klemm has...I don't know if a Texas equivalent to that exists (especially since TCU is now an AQ school).

He also coached for five or six years at the University of Houston, so he familiar with Texas.
