The SMU will begin spring workouts in a week, and the Mustangs' defense will be replacing three key seniors from the 2010 season: linebackers Youri Yenga and Pete Fleps, and cornerback Sterling Moore. Defensive coordinator Tom Mason visited with PonyFans.com to discuss who has the inside track to take those starting jobs, one key position change, his impressions of several players from the 2010 season and what he expects next year from several players ... starting with spring workouts.

Enjoy!

One subject not covered which certainly impacts the defense is what are we going to do about a kicker?

Rishaad Wimbley should wear a Superman Shirt as he is the strongest kid I have ever heard of that is still in HS....benching 450 as a senior and squatting 650 pounds?...still in damn HS...projected to bench 550 while at SMU?....freakish is right.

great interview!

really good to see walk-ons like Lincoln Schick and Beau Barnes getting mentioned in the article. They should have earned schollies by now. Having quality walkons really makes a difference to a program. If Im not mistaken, wasnt Cameron Rogers a walk-on too??

I think walkons have to be in school for two years, before they can earn a ship.

Yup — Rogers walked on.
